All I want for Christmas is…a painting of a mouse riding a lobster.

Christmas cards during the Victorian Era tended to be rather unusual, reflecting an offbeat sense of humor before Christmas iconography had solidified into what it is today.

Let’s shake this tree down. 🧵⬇️

Oh, Dave has a point there. Never *had* an AOL e-mail address, but did "use" them by sending. So 19 for me. (I never slept in a water bed.)

Jane Austen used 'however' at the beginning of a sentence, and so can you.

Went back to the shop with more time to look and found a couple more DC comics with Atari inserts. Both were on my list of possibilities already, I just overlooked them before.

However, I learned that I don't want DC issues from Dec 1981. Those inserts aren't Atari.

Two months ago I became aware of these DC inserts thanks to Aaron. I have very few pre-Crisis DC comics, so I, a 1980s Atari enthusiast, missed out.

I managed to find a list of issues—no idea of it's complete or not—and eventually got to my local comic shop to see what they had. 1/2

#StarWarsSunday Marvel Special Edition Featuring Star Wars #2. It's treasury sized, but it's not officially part of that series. It contains the last three (of six) issues of the original Star Wars comic adaptation. Front and back cover art by Howard Chaykin and Tony deZuniga.

#RandomGameSaturday Confession: Most of my games have gone unplayed for years. I bought this copy of BMX Airmaster new from post-Crash toy store stock in the late '80s. Now it has actiplaque. (Does anyone still use that term? I'll explain in the follow up.) I didn't realize this had happened. ☹️ 1/2

Just want to note that ET came out in December, making it concurrent to the crash taking place but not a “cause”
On this day in 1982, Warner Communications announced it had adjusted its guidance regarding its earnings for the year - primarily due to the issues faced by its Atari Inc. subsidiary.

Tech stocks plummeted the next day, signalling the Market's start of the Video Game Crash.

#RandomGameSaturday Personal Arcade: Volume One for Windows 95 was released in 1997. Despite the title, it does not contain arcade games, but rather ten Colecovision non-arcade ports. This collection has an entry on MobyGames, but lacks scans, so I need to take care of that.

I need to do this.
🚨 VINTAGE SHRINKWRAP PSA 🚨

⚠️ Sealed boxes are a horrible idea for preservation.

📜 You will destroy the thing you got by keeping it sealed as the shrink bows the box inwards crushing it.

ℹ️ Buy a pack of acid free bags or poly sheets or even record sleeves, to put your prized game into.

30 years ago today, Netscape announced a new programming language, one that emerged from a frantic, week-and-a-half-long sprint. It ended up sticking around far longer than anyone could've expected.
In 1995, a Netscape employee wrote a hack in 10 days that now runs the Internet
Thirty years later, JavaScript is the glue that holds the interactive web together, warts and all.

if you didn’t know the facts the true statement “the best-selling game of all time in 1985 went over 40 years without a rerelease” would be absolutely shocking, given our culture’s love of nostalgia (and/or love of reselling any old thing with name value)
