I'm not sure, either. I know of schools where they teach all of the options for further maths (AQA), then the students pick which 2 of the 3 they want to do. That seems crazy to me, we barely have time to teach the two options that we do!

Yeah, it's a shame to miss out on the fun stuff. A lot of our trips for first years (university visits, Bletchley Park, etc) go out in June, so fortunately they're after the exams 😊

Not much room for emergencies/uplanned absences etc, which always worries me 😬

I am that colleague (not literally, but I also did this!) 😄 It's a great course.

Yeah, we do AQA and our exam dates are 11th and 15th May. When I realised I'd gained an extra week it made my day 😂🥳

It depends a bit on the group/teacher, but we tend to finish a couple of weeks after Easter - around late April/early May. We have 4 x 70 mins per week, which works out roughly the same (about an extra 10 mins per fortnight)

Only one on a weekend. We have a few open evenings too (5-8pm)

I'm at work 9am-3pm on Saturday for an open day/interview day for prospective students for September.
Why is this half term always so full of the extra things, when you're already tired and it's cold and dark? 🥶😴

Yeah, I usually give them a brief synopsis of the film and tell them to go and watch it!

I don't think it matters as long as you enjoy the KS5 Maths conversation. Quite a few people on here are in roles relating to KS5 education but not necessarily teaching 😊

I quite like a map. Also, a list of who's who, in case I forget who a character is 😅
January 13, 2026 at 8:10 PM
Probably me re-sharing the KS5 maths starter pack (I also went behind enemy lines and shared it on X, which I no longer use, so there might be people coming over from there 🤣)

Although the cube root of a negative is still a negative (so doesn't act like a modulus function...)
January 11, 2026 at 4:52 PM
Or the 1st root for not doing anything
January 11, 2026 at 4:16 PM
I thought you were already on it, but I've added you again just in case 😄

Does the calculator let you do negative roots? (I don't have one near me to check) If so, I might have to begrudgingly row back on my previous response...
January 11, 2026 at 2:44 PM
I would say no - roots feel like they should be positive integers (which are then written as fractions when converted into index form)
Are they trying to use the negative to represent the reciprocal of a root? That feels wrong 😅

Last week it was this. From the blurb, it sounded right up my street, but after a couple of chapters I didn't have a clue what was going on: amzn.eu/d/94u0R9o

The other was popular dragon smut, which I really shouldn't be admitting to (I quite enjoyed the first one, but the second was a chore) 😅
