This reminds me strongly of the psychic vultures who fraudulently claim they can talk to the dead. It does real damage because it interrupts the grieving process and doesn't let people adapt in a healthy way after losing a loved one.

LLMs present all kinds of problems for the narrow case I just described. They're very unpredictable, they try to sustain engagement in a way that's inappropriate for a random background NPC, and it's easy to get them talking about immersion-breaking things.
