Balancing what matters with what's available is such an important pragmatic choice for real-world research that two different speakers wanted to emphasize it.

Spending the day with the NIH Pragmatic Trials Collaboratory #DIScience25

Wealth of experience in the room to make the science of healthcare delivery responsive to what matters:

✅️ Relevant questions
✅️ Real world settings
✅️ Representative populations
✅️ Routinely collected data
✅️ Rigorous methods

Reflecting on experience of ‘implementation failures’ in research, tend to be two responses: 1. to approach implementation more as coproduction, with negotiation and ideally humility, which I favour. 2. to see it as challenge of needing ever more specific ‘implementation strategies’ to be trialled.
With
@trishgreenhalgh.bsky.social I propose a new philosophy of policy implementation. Rather than lamenting implementation failures and seeing disputes over interpretations, values, and priorities as obstacles, we suggest embracing these disputes as constructive.
