I took a whale picture once on #StellwagenBankNationalMarineSanctuary. It was a pretty cool picture. It's a forever stamp now!

How to Rescue an Overloaded Organization - by Nelson P. Repenning and Donald C. Kieffer - Behavioral Scientist
Many leaders mistakenly believe that their organizations thrive under constant pressure. But overloaded systems are broken systems—to fix them, we must learn our way to the right amount of work.

A huge shoutout to all the dedicated grants management specialists at the NIH who are working around the clock to push grants out before the Sep 30 deadline. And also to the POs responding to frantic emails.
Not an easy job under the best of circumstances and right now it's the pits.
Thank you!

More than 85 American and international scientists have denounced a Trump administration report that calls the threat of climate change overblown, saying the analysis is riddled with errors, misrepresentations and cherry-picked data to fit the president’s agenda.

AMOC is a climate-driven overturning current that supports northern Europe's warm climate. It's collapse would result in a colder Europe.

The Gulf Stream is powered by the rotation of the Earth. For it to collapse, the planet would have to stop spinning.

That, the physicists tell me, would be bad.

Semi-regular reminder that the AMOC and the Gulf Stream are no the same thing.

The collapse of the AMOC would be Catastrophic.

The collapse of the Gulf Stream would be Apocalyptic.

Thrilled to share our new Ecography paper! 🌊🐟

We put species distribution models to the test during marine heatwaves and found that integrating diverse data types through joint-likelihood approaches makes forecasts more resilient under novel ocean conditions.

Data integration improves species distribution forecasts under novel ocean conditions
Accurate forecasts of species distributions in response to changing climate is essential for proactive management and conservation decision-making. However, species distribution models (SDMs) often h...

My latest: Polar scientists warn that the White House and NSF are planning to terminate the Nathaniel Palmer, the only US research icebreaker capable of handling Antarctic extremes, this October.

So far the plan has seen minimal pushback from Congress.
