This piece took eight months to write and report, and I hope more than anything else it did Karolina's story justice. She was a beautiful spirit who deserved better.

Many of the raw vegans I spoke to said Karolina's death had nothing to do with her diet. They believe she died because she refused help and essentially lost the will to live. Many declined to speak w/ me, fearing the story would reflect poorly on the community. www.thecut.com/article/karo...
