New Essay is live!

"This isn’t about hating the South. It’s about loving it enough to hold up a mirror to it. Love without truth curdles into worship, and worship of a false self is just another haunting." -- R.D. Sellers

We Don’t Talk About Monsters
Halloween hands us easy monsters: plastic fangs, rubber masks, store-bought blood. They’re safe because we know they’re not real.  Real monsters dress better. They keep tidy lawns and shake your ha…

📖 New Flash Fiction

When Tyler O’Connor hears something tapping at his bedroom window in the middle of the night, he does what any scared little boy would do…

He looks.

A story about missing children, haunted woods, and secrets that never die.

👻 New Flash Horror 👻

At an estate sale, a college student finds a box of Mason jars. Most seem harmless. One is fogged from the inside, with a strip of tape that reads: DON’T LET IT OUT.

My new flash horror story is live now. Quick to read. Hard to forget.

My incredibly talented husband is finally ready to share his writing with the world!

If southern gothic horror is your thing, give him a follow and subscribe at rdsellerswrites.com to read his latest essays and flash fiction.
🖤 Welcome to my corner of the internet.

The South doesn’t need borrowed monsters to be Gothic. Beauty and decay, tradition and denial, family and rot.

My first essay is a reflection on those contractions and the shadows where my fiction will live.

The South Is Already Gothic
You don’t have to squint too hard to see horror in the South. It’s stitched into the landscape, layered into the culture, and hidden in plain sight.

This week, HI received notices of terminations for more than a dozen contracts from USAID and the U.S. Department of State. As this crucial aid is slashed, thousands of individuals around the world will be affected - especially those with disabilities.

There’s been so much rhetoric around #foreignAidFunding that it feels like the impacted individuals are being forgotten.

HI isn’t going anywhere, but needs your help to bridge the funding gap to support people like Shobbir. #usaid #ForeignAid

This is BAD NEWS!!

Antipersonnel landmines cannot distinguish between a soldier or a child. When they’re used, civilians are disproportionately harmed.

Last year, more than 5,000 landmine casualties were reported. 84% were civilians. 37% of those were children.
Exclusive: President Joe Biden has authorized the provision of antipersonnel land mines to Ukraine, two U.S. officials said, a step that will bolster Kyiv’s defenses against advancing Russian troops but has drawn criticism from arms control groups.
Biden approves antipersonnel mines for Ukraine, undoing his own policy
The controversial White House move to send Kyiv land mines comes as Russia’s advances in eastern Ukraine threaten to overwhelm front-line defenses.
