i used to live on military bases, & seeing soldiers patrolling civilian streets is wrong at a level that sits in the gut like a lead weight. if you can brush off their presence so easily it's because you don't really understand what they are for and what they can do. it's authoritarianism manifest.

"no local residents are intimidated by them"? family and friends who live in the U street corridor feel quite differently than you. the constant presence of unformed soldiers is a heavy psychic weight for a lot of people. their constant presence in metro ctr is disturbing.

the intent of the orders is to traumatize the public and cow blue cities. why should the men and women who allow themselves to be used this way be shown anything other than contempt? why should they be allowed to normalise their presence?

being angry at them doesn't preclude being angry at the top.
