Your kid might be a homeschooler when they give you an S+ on the math worksheet they made up for you on Saturday morning.

One of the best things about working with children and youth is seeing them grow and push their comfort zone. (I am the current or former Girl Scout leader of multiple of these performers and they all rock!)
I stopped by @momentumcinc’s rehearsal for Annie Jr. and was blown away by the talent, energy, and joy these young performers bring to the stage! 🎭✨ The show opens this weekend—support Alexandria’s largest youth arts nonprofit and grab your tickets today givebutter.com/YzdcXp

This has been a really rough few days. I recently learned of a controversy around our book THE PRINCESS IN BLACK AND THE PRINCE IN PINK. Some were outraged that Deseret Book carried it (a chain of bookstores in the west). Deseret Book appears to have complied to their demands and removed it. 1/

I love when an author loved by my children is a good person.
The kids are listening. And we need them to be sure that we want them here. All of them. 💗 9/9

Democratic AGs are suing to force Trump to fund SNAP. You know who isn’t suing? Virginia’s incumbent Attorney General Miyares. Elect Jay Jones, Virginia!
"If we had a contingency fund."

You mean like this contingency fund the Trump Administration just deleted off their website? The one they are legally required to use to keep SNAP funded?

He was smart enough to keep this out of the news until after the filing deadlines. But he’s unopposed. The best way to let him know to knock this shit off is a MASSIVE undervote from the rest of the Dem ticket, bc there’s no risk of an R winning if you withhold your vote.

The Senate has just passed the military NDAA containing 2 anti-trans provisions: a surgery ban using federal funds (dependents too), and a sports ban on military academy spaces.

This will be the STARTING point for negotiations with the House, which has even worse provisions.

Only 20 Dems opposed.

Noooo! Duke St Aldi's rearranged. (Especially not good when I am quick shopping for a Girl Scout event.)

Did you know that many places have ways to get Narcan for free? Here in Alexandria you can get it through the Health Department.
Even if you think you will never need it. Get it. Add it to your first aid kit. It could save a life.

Be Safe, Get Narcan
Take steps to protect you and yours today and everyday. Keep Narcan on hand in case of an accidental overdose or emergency.

Pro tip to landlords: get a good lawyer before you fuck over your tenant. (As in you are probably wrong and need someone to tell you that.)

Finally got a chance to check out Chinquapin playground's current status. Much better fencing to block only the broken fence rather than the entire playground.
Many thanks to @sarahbagley.bsky.social for following up!

Rain is so needed. (Second day of the weekend that I need to wash feet after being in a park/playground. Without doing intentionally messy things.)

Post your last photo of DC to show what a hell-hole it is.

Here are stacks of canned goods waiting to be put into boxes at the Capital Area Food Bank. My Cadette Girl Scout Troop helped to fill a lot of boxes.

Alexandria folks- does anyone have information when the playground at Chinquapin is reopening? I can't find anything online about it. And the website about it does not mention that everything but the swings is still closed.

Picnic shelters are good! I wish more of our parks had them.....
(Looking at you All Veterans' Park with a sun shade instead of a shelter.)
This is the office of a very intelligent man who said “I’ll bike to the office but head home at 1pm to beat those storms that aren’t supposed to start until later in the afternoon”

Anyway this park shelter in Arlington is pretty nice

Today I was complimented for having patience with my children. I thanked the store worker for their patience with us. (Multiple people went ahead of us as we were deciding.) But, it is weird to be be complimented for doing the minimum of letting your children pick out what they want to purchase.

And they are still here.
(I got a great response from our Elections office. I sent her a follow up that they are still there.)
I do notice that they are only signs for losing campaigns.

Alexandria folks, who is responsible for picking up signs at a polling place after the election? This is the pile at Beatley today, made by the hardworking folks doing some green space maintenance.
