I think this is avoiding the "insane Masto server owner blocks everyone on your behalf" scenario because, so far, the dot-org bits are way easier to implement than Mastodon which is insanely complicated and heavy. But that self-hosting really needs to move faster.

You have blocklists, custom feeds, all sorts of tools that, really, most social media platforms don't offer because it interferes quite heavily with advertising, their core revenue-maker. bsky-dot-app is wordpress-dot-com, and getting to hosting your own bits will be wordpress-dot-org.

I remember telling someone that a successful social media company had to offer reasonably good moderation as a core service. Otherwise you might as well run your own blog/forum and deal with spam, trolls, etc. yourself. Bluesky's pitch is "here are the tools, have fun".

The more servers there are, the more options people have. And I suspect if enough people leave the original Bluesky server over insufficient moderation, they'll rethink their decisions. The "free speech" crowd vastly overestimate how many people want that out of a social media platform. 9/9

I paid for $32 of shaving cream from Canada. Unique stuff I’ve used for years, nothing like it in US. Small family business.

UPS guy came to my door today with box and said I have to pay additional $120 before he can hand it to me.

I feel like the Athlon deserves a space on the list. It's when AMD went from bargain bin ankle-biter to a real contender. Intel never saw it coming, and their missteps with the Pentium 4 and RAMBUS(t) made it even worse for them.

The "I didn't see it" excuse is always a punt. Your job as an elected official is to PAY ATTENTION. I think it's worse to say "I'm oblivious" rather than "I'm going to excuse it" because the former almost always implies the latter, but with extra lying.
