It was so fun to give a Nerd Night talk this past June, and now it looks like I might get to do another one! Researchers, clinicians, and other Ann Arbor based nerds in my orbit, consider proposing a talk!

A Hundred Nerds:
Ann Arbor’s edition of Nerd Nite hit the century mark this summer. We spoke to event hosts and @aadl.org staffers Emily Murphy and Jacob Gorski about the informal talk series and its evolution ahead of an October 9 event at LIVE in Ann Arbor. pulp.aadl.org/node/647854

How exotic! I’ll try the bender egg brunch with a Rombouts and a roll and butter if you can spot me a ha’penny.

Perhaps in the Summer Game points shop someday... stay tuned!

“Libraries deliver the freedom that games promise.” Love it, so true! Thanks for talking about The Summer Game!

Yesterday I gave a Pecha Kucha talk for Bike Windsor Essex's Community Conversations event where I shared my love and admiration of @aadl.org's The Summer Game.

My talk was entitled "Libraries deliver the freedom that games promise" librarian.aedileworks.com/2025/10/01/l...

This is great, Mita, thank you for sharing your talk! I particularly like tying it back to the Mechanic’s Institute Chess Club, brilliant. Thanks for playing!

If you’re a Hitch fan, (or even if not!) this long-running deep dive into every episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents by @aadl.org’s own Al Sjoerdsma is a top tier listen. Loaded with media clips, source material, and exploring everything else each player in the episode appeared in. A+ podcasting!

In the latest installment of Presenting Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Ronald Grimes gets letters from a man who claims he can see the future. But is such a thing possible? Plus, Donna Reed tries to see what's on the "Other Side of the Curtain."

Ha, this is between you and the Observer staff!
eli.aadl.org
That’s very kind of you to say, but the luck is all mine!

We are thrilled to announce that @aadl.org plans to acquire the Ann Arbor Observer!

Public ownership of local news media is more important than ever, and this acquisition builds on years of partnership and archival work to ensure the future of this priceless community asset.

Hey UM people of Bluesky! This is an amazing archival survey of past, big-name concerts at Crisler Arena complete with photos from the Ann Arbor News and quotes from reviews in the Michigan Daily

A perfect piece to get you thinking about this weekend's Zach Bryan/John Mayer show at the Big House

I thought it would be interesting to explore the history of shows at Crisler Center, U-M’s second-biggest venue, on the heels of the Zach Bryan and John Mayer concert at Michigan Stadium on September 27.

Here's what I found and wrote for @pulp.aadl.org:

Here are some photos from my visits to Gangdong Libraries. I was invited to read a story to kids at the opening of the new Gangdong Central Library, so I read Chico Chews a Tale, from AADL's own Fifth Avenue Press!
Eli posing with a copy of Chico Chews a Tale, published by Fifth Avenue Press, and Korean children that have just heard him read the book, along with Gangdong-gu Mayor Lee Soo-hee. The science book display wall at the Gangdong Forest Library, featuring science books donated by a scholar. A shelf of books from AADL now available to Gangdong Library Patrons, including a handwritten note from Eli that says: "Congratulations on the opening of the Gangdong Central Library! Such a beautiful place for the people of Gangdong-gu. Thank you for inviting me to be a part of it!" An Akako G. Shins sticker is next to my signature. I am at the meeting, opening ceremony of a new library in Seoul. At the end of the ceremony they played…. Summer Lovin’. 😱

Today Mayor Lee Soo-Hee of Gangdong-gu and I signed a partnership agreement bringing collaboration, and exchange of ideas and materials between Gangdong in Seoul and AADL!

Thank you to the team here in Gangdong-gu for making me feel so welcome in Seoul!

I’m visiting Seoul this week as a guest of Gangdong-gu government, to participate in the opening ceremony for their new Central Library, and to celebrate a new partnership between Gangdong-gu and AADL. More photos of Gangdong-gu libraries to come!

At the Game Over Gala we welcomed a new friend and AADL staffer: our new costumed mascot Akako G. Shins!

Akakojiishiins means "Little Groundhog" in Ojibwe, and while they're not exactly little, they'll be making a big impression at AADL festivals and expos!

We did run other games during the early years of the pandemic; a “Bummer Game” that started with lockdown and a Winter Game that ran through the Omicron wave. What we learned is that it really takes a whole year to plan a Summer Game, and it’s at its best when it’s a special summer thing.
