Platecarpus & Hoploscaphites
Platecarpus is a mosasaur, an extinct marine reptile with four flippers. This one is covered with colorful squares like a quilt, beginning dark teal at its back and fading towards light blue and yellow on the underside. Two Hoploscaphites, ammonite cephalopods, are swimming nearby.

"placeholder text" "concept art" either the temporary thing you put in matters to the process, in which case you need to get a human to work on it, or it doesn't, in which case you can just as easily put a bright pink rectangle that says PLACEHOLDER in and save everyone time and effort

it turns out i really enjoy making educational posts about the comics making process and ways of thinking. here's another one featuring characters from my graphic novel in a very anachronistic art museum.

NEETA: It says here that there's a lot of ways artists can create depth and visual interest in their work. same image, edited to involve spot blacks and halftones in the inks NEETA: Such as inking with lighting in mind--using heavier lines where there would be shadows. Spot blacks and halftone add places of contrast and visual interest. same image, but neeta, emery, and the background are slightly lighter and grayer. NEETA: Atmospheric perspective is a decent way to achieve depth. Far away things have less contrast and less saturation. Compare a tree nearby to a tree down a road. It's done here using simple screen layers. EMERY: That's subtle. same image, but wick has been shaded much darker and emery and neeta have a warm overlay. NEETA: you can also achieve depth and focus with color contrast. the figure in front is dark and cool, and the figures in back are bright and warm.
