I’ve been trying out new hiking trails around Baltimore. Finally walked the BWI Trail this AM. Super beautiful scenery, 10.7 mi in 2:12 hours. What a great start to my day! 😊☀️

Thanks Katie! Thanks for teaching me about KphA / KphB. Always fun learning about another RBP 😍🤩

Congrats, Jorjethe and Yi-Lan! 👏👏

Our new paper is out in PNAS! We show that competition for binding to the Hfq matchmaker disfavors mismatched sRNA-mRNA combinations while allowing matched sRNA-mRNAs to form stable pairs. Kudos to Jorjethe Roca and Yi-Lan Chen for their fantastic work on this problem! doi.org/10.1073/pnas...
Competition for Hfq drives kinetic selection of mRNA targets by Escherichia coli small noncoding RNAs | PNAS
Small noncoding RNAs (sRNAs) regulate gene expression in Escherichia coli bacteria in response to diverse stimuli in the environment and the host. ...

That’s not weird at all! I would feel the same way. It’s always nice to know you’re not the only one (but I get it, in this case, that’s also very scary).

Congrats!! 🎉🎉 I’m so happy for you (but also wow, I’m so sorry you had to go through all of that.)

So sad to hear this. I was really looking forward to this meeting (as were my lab mates)!

New #Breakthrough article from @Woodsonlab.bsky.social shows how the E.coli RNA DEAD-box helicase unfolds unstable RNAs to fuel ribosomal RNA remodeling and the search for the native, protein binding structure! #Ribosome #RNA #Helicase 👉 Full article: https://doi.org/10.1093/nar/gkaf104

There’s nothing like peaceful weekend lab sessions!
• No distractions 😌
• I’m free to sing and dance 💃
• Unlimited access to instruments 🔬
• The lab is my oyster 🦪

Wow, what an honor to have been mentored by her! She is such an inspirational scientist. Forever grateful for the F31, in her name, that funds my PhD. Thank you for sharing this! I hope everyone reads her story.

Can confirm I’m absolutely addicted to using the EI Flex! (Currently in lab cranking out more smFRET experiments.) Hope you guys enjoy BPS!

Another lovely snow day @ JHU!! Makes for a cozy morning break from experiments ☕️❄️

Will there be a Zoom link? (I would be very excited if so 😄😄)

Do you know if there’s a Zoom link?

Really beautiful RNA structures from Rachel Kretsch in the Das and Chiu groups

These look like viral capsids but they're only RNA!! Hopefully this unlocks more work on "ornate" RNAs 🧪
