The bottom line with the proposed cuts to NSF is to cut the number of working scientists and disappear opportunities to train new scientists.

This is a PROPOSED budget to Congress. Call your reps.
screenshot from the NSF budget request to congress showing that the number of people involved in NSF activities will drop from 330,100 to 90,000.

How bad will it be? Catastrophic.

Proposed cuts to #NSF, #NIH, and #NASA will set the US R&D landscape back 25 yrs+, cause economic and job loss now, and undermine innovations to come.

But, this is the WH's *proposed* budget.

Speak up now before it is too late.

(inflation adjusted $-s below)
NSF, NASA and NIH budgets per year, inflation adjusted from 2000-2025 along with the proposed cuts. NSF includes research component only. Massive cuts across all sectors, well below support spanning 25 years.

Unbelievable news.

Pancreatic is one of the deadliest cancers.

New paper shows personalized mRNA vaccines can induce durable T cells that attack pancreatic cancer, with 75% of patients cancer free at three years—far, far better than standard of care.

There’s no shortage of ways to take action, but keeping track of them is another story. That’s why we built Action Lab—so you can cut through the chaos and find a way to act that fits your time, place, and energy. Thank you @cewagnerlab.bsky.social for your hard work to put this together.

Action fatigue is real, but so is our power to create change. We built Action Lab to make it easier to find, track, and contribute action items that move science and policy forward in the midst of the news firehose. Try it out now, and stay tuned for a bigger launch! airtable.com/app3mMFCCzpp...

Upon learning that yesterday would be my last day as a program officer at the National Science Foundation, I shared this parting message with my colleagues. The next few months will be frenetic and stressful for them. Here are some things that you can do to help them with the mission ahead. (1)

I lost my job at the National Science Foundation yesterday, along with 167 of my colleagues, including some dear friends. This was the best job I've ever had, and I thought it would be my last. The PI community has been sympathetic and supportive, without exception. I will miss working for you.

Amid the chaos of federal workforce cuts, here’s one action you can take: Find state-specific stats on NIH funding at bit.ly/NIH_bystate & call your reps. De-funding science hurts us all—our health, economy & future depend on it.

Since federal health information is getting harder to come by, I thought I'd share this new resource. Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine launched an online Avian Flu Resource Center--a one-stop clearinghouse for trustworthy information on bird flu.

FWIW, North Carolina is #5 in the list of states most economically impacted by cuts to the NIH! Only four other states have us beat (CA, NY, MA, and TX).
