It's the 20th anniversary of the publication of Never Let Me Go, one of my favourite novels of all time. For @lareviewofbooks.bsky.social , I wrote about what it means to me and how, in 2025, Ishiguro's vision is--alas--more resonant than ever: lareviewofbooks.org/article/sava...

My friend Esmond Harmsworth passed away in his sleep at the age of 57. Esmond was a literary agent who cheered me on when I went back to get my MFA. We had an email exchange a week ago where he encouraged me to send my new novel out. He had two little ones and a husband. A spectacular human.

Thanks for sharing this, Matt. Stacey is very wise and encouraging.

I've been querying agents with my novel -- an endeavor requiring persistence and good cheer. I appreciate other writers willing to share their experience. "Failure: not the opposite of success, but its useful companion." open.substack.com/pub/literary...

Hello writer friends! Coming to Bluesky from Instagram and “Twitter” in the before days. I’d love to have more writers to follow and be followed by. I also post about the animals in my life, 2 dogs at home and a whole bunch at the farm animal sanctuary where I volunteer on Thursday’s. Welcome!

Just a reminder for aspiring writers out there:
- it took me 10 years to find the right agent
- my first 4 books never got published (and one in the middle)
- my daily goal for writing is just 500 words
- it’s mostly luck & showing up
- spite is my main motivator
- I still have imposter syndrome

Beautiful statement of why protesting matters, even if it feels like you aren't making much headway. You're not just speaking to power. You're speaking to others and making it possible for them to join in.
That’s exactly it. People tend to look around to gauge how they should react to an event, like how whenever a fire alarm goes off people look to see if it’s a drill. Protesting tells people “this is an emergency, and you’re not alone if you want to fight.”

Every now and then my mom, who had seven children would go "on strike." The first time she did it was in 1970 and it coincided with the Woman's Strike for Equality here in the United States. She'd sit in a comfy chair and read a Stephen King novel and eat bridge mix candy. @stephenking.bsky.social
