Accepting only fresh brine
One thing that stands out to me about this story and others like it is that no one will give a quote saying “we do not promote settlements in occupied territories, which violate international law”

Today, we mourn the transgender Americans whose lives were lost to anti-transgender violence.

Democrats believe every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, and to live their life fully and honestly.

It’s cool that after this case was decided they compensated the defendant by giving him an entire DC suburb

I don’t think 63% counts as “most” for the purposes of this headline
While the majority of Americans believe in the safety of vaccines — 53 percent believe childhood vaccines have been tested enough for safety and 51 percent agree that the childhood vaccine schedule is safe — there is significantly more uncertainty among Republicans.
Most Americans believe in the effectiveness of childhood vaccines — but there’s a catch
A small share of Americans, particularly among Republicans, don’t trust that there’s enough safety testing.

My understanding is that the *incapacitation* justification of prisons, getting the bad guys off the streets, is a relatively modern concept for imprisonment compared to the *rehabilitation* function. In the past, incapacitation was usually accomplished by, ya know, execution 1/

Here he seems to be objecting to doomers claiming that all our institutions are irredeemable thanks to American fascism, but it seems like those people are actually behaving the way Tom claims they would be under fascism
A regime of avaricious, cruel goons isn't the same thing as a "fascist state," and the fact that they have to go to court, fight it out in state elections and legislatures, cower from being filmed (instead of filming *you*) means everything.

Recognize this. Don't surrender to your fears.

Hey—quick question: what behavior by people who claim that America is not fascist *today* are you objecting to? You’re clearly annoyed by people making these claims, but what are they doing wrong? (Besides using a word differently than you might)
My mistake has been trying to explain what "fascism" is to people who don't care what it is.

So I'm going to try something else. Let's do this as a practical thought exercise.

If America *were* fascist *today* - what would you have to do differently in your daily life? /1

His birthday was on the 18th and I really don’t think it’s unreasonable to blow $400 on a nice dinner with your wife for a special occasion. It’s also like the quintessential gift from mom for an adult
i don't get it. omen sushi in nyc is cheaper than nobu in malibu, where you dined last year without your wife

Man I want Giridharadas to ask Cuomo to try to pronounce ‘Giridharadas’
Anand Giridharadas to Andrew Cuomo: "First of all, governor, it's 'Mamdani.' This is a very big, diverse city you want to lead. We should get the names right."

This does seem concerning, but I can’t abide a graph where the y axis doesn’t start at 0
More people should be talking about this.

Listening to Michael and Aubrey being outraged (rightly!) at the 2023 AAP guidelines recommending using person-first language to reduce weight stigma and imagining his response to someone saying “I think ‘child with obesity’ is fine, those children do have obesity”
Like most people responding to Michael about this, I deeply respect all the work he’s done correcting the record on so many topics, and it’s disappointing more than anything to see this from him

After Charlottesville in 2017 I called my grandmother, a Russian Jew who fled the USSR in 1977, and told her that the president she voted for was inciting antisemitic violence. She responded that he can’t be an antisemite—he supports Israel!
I spoke with 40+ sources for a look inside the Anti-Defamation League. Here’s some of what I found.

ADL’s gentle response to Elon Musk’s infamous salute was partially driven by his support of Israel. To ADL, that indicated he didn’t have “antisemitic tendencies.” (1/x)
