Amd misspelled. One word! Stressed like 'understand'! Second vowel is a schwa, and the d is silent!

I get that with plasma donation. It's so profoundly weird. (Like - extremely cool, what a neat machine, isn't it great that we can do these things! but! So weird!)

Friends! Acquaintances! Enemies! Strangers!

If you have not read Amal's short stories, what a great way to get all caught up.

Absolutely thrilled to share the cover to next year's short story collection coming out from @tordotcom.bsky.social! I'm obsessed with it!

Comes out March 24, 2026, but you can pre-order it now wherever you like getting your books! Here's Macmillan's link.

On a gradient background that goes from blush-pink at the top to a muddy green at the bottom, a book cover. Super-imposed on a pastoral, oil-painting style image depicting a forested foreground and a hilly background beneath a soft champagne sky, is superimposed a 3-dimensional rhomboid-shape, the facets of which play with space. One facet shows a pale cloudy sky, and from it, a brown hare emerges chasing the hind legs and bushy tail of a wolf, the rest of which vanishes out of the rhomboid frame. The rhomboid's other facets -- which create the kind of infinity loop of an Escher painting -- are either blush-pink or covered in the greenery from the background. Above the rhomboid is the title, and the subtitle "Stories"; below it are the words New York Times Bestselling & Award-winning Author Amal El-Mohtar. My name and the word "Stories" are in the same blush-pink as the rhomboid's facets.

Getting to show you all this cover and announce that VILLAIN is officially coming out in May of next year is such a joy and a relief i don't even know how to express it.

the cover for a book entitled Villain by Natalie Zina Walschots. the cover is a bright magenta with dark blue and teal lettering for the title, and the author's name is in yellow. there is an image of the silhouette of a woman carrying a cane, surrounded by the silhouettes of five superheroes.

I did say it had been a while! I haven't watched that era of Whedon since it aired and my memories are fuzzy, which is one reason I phrased it as a question. :)

Like - Superman has that very emotional conversation with something going on in the background, but the characters being emotional aren't the ones making the joke, there's just something contextually funny happening.

It's been a while since I watched a Whedon thing, but I wonder if the difference is that there is an underlying sincerity in Gunn's stuff? I like it for its earnestness.

ha - reading a book set in the 1920s that mentions a character going to a movie starring Harrison Ford and did a double-take and whaddayaknow:

Took a biggish step today toward doing something that's going to help my mother do something she's wanted to do since I was a small child.

(I know that's circuitous, but it's an early step of many! And I have a concrete plan for the rest!)

I can't wait to see her do the thing.

While my mother was recovering from a broken leg, she found a quite firm recliner (of the type marketed towards women - the kind marketed to men are too soft and difficult to get out of) with a handle that also folded it up to be very useful.

Lately I've been doing sequence edits of pelicans diving, but for the marine life feed hitting 2k likes, how about a NEARLY FULL BODY HUMPBACK BREACH sequence? 🦑
a humpback whale jumping out of the water, 6 images stacked as it goes from nearly straight up, through to the right where you can see the bottom of the whale, until it slaps down onto the water with a great splash

I got SO STUCK after five of them.

(Thanks for talking about this btw, am enjoying myself a lot.)

(And obviously there's a whole aspect that I am never gonna understand, but 'who am I' is a huge question even when you don't have a major update at some point.)

(I love reading your posts about dance, btw. Your love for it makes me want to try it myself.)

As a cis woman, I have spent about forty years trying to work out who I am as a woman. I think I have nearly cracked it. I think if I had started a couple of years ago, I would be proud to have figured out as much as you have. You are a woman who loves music, and gorgeous dresses, and dance.

Used to bike home as fast as I could so that I would only miss five minutes at the beginning. Had to make my sister stand in the corner with a wire hanger so we could get the fuzzy Vermont channel.

Just got back from seeing Elbow play. Hot damn, live music just fills me right up. "One day like this a year would see me right," as the song goes.

Yeah. I need more of that.

My city website? Nope. Quebec elections website? Nope.
emilyflemily.bsky.social
Can anyone in quebec find a way yo see a list of candidates for the municipal election? So far my best bet seems to be wandering around town trying to catch party signs like pokémon.
emilyflemily.bsky.social
(Thank goodness it's a relatively sparse set. Still, though, lighting is a beast and I have a cyclorama to hang!)

I am a fan of democracy but also the municipal elections are being held in the theatre on move-in day for Tech Week and I want to bang my head on a wall a little.
