Up next in our series on drivers of the affordability crisis: technology.
I wrote about AI bots are colluding with one another, anticipating consumer choices, and transferring wealth to the businesses that employ them. "That's why we're building all these data centers."

Prices in the Machine - The American Prospect
AI’s real contribution to humanity could be maximizing corporate profit by preying on personal data to raise prices. In fact, it’s already happening.

I strenuously object to the implicit assertion that people don't want to hear about other people's holidays. I do! In Iran they have an outdoor picnic day (Sizdah Bedar). In Japan there's a bean-throwing day (Setsubun). There's a whole world of fascinating rituals and traditions.

As for campaign funds, those can come from almost anywhere under Pennsylvania's lax laws which don't limit the size of donations nor how campaign dollars have been spent. You can get a taste of that fundraising in this project I did earlier this year:

These powerful interests donated $18M to PA’s top lawmakers
Lobbyists say political donations can lead to access, but PA’s weak transparency laws make it nearly impossible to trace influence.

Trump is closing the CFPB after a bizarre decision to redefine the word “earnings” made it impossible for the agency to even request funding. From @ddayen.bsky.social: trib.al/fKDWHN4
Russ Vought Tries to Bankrupt the CFPB - The American Prospect
A legal office in the White House, at the behest of Office of Management and Budget director and Project 2025 architect Russ Vought, has decided to redefine the word “earnings” in order to bankrupt the largely dormant Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

When identity thieves destroyed our credit rating, it was the CFPB who fixed it, which is why we now own the house that we live in.
The Trump regime is declaring that funding for the CFPB is illegal.

Remember: This is the agency that protects Americans from financial predators.

Anti-CFPB oligarchs, who spent millions to re-elect Trump, will now have an easier time padding their pockets by ripping you off.
