I want to take a moment to give praise and a shoutout to @bookshop.org . They are NOT just an amazon alternative. Their service is quick, the inventory is vast, and you can choose a local bookstore to support and give sales to. They are good at this, and I am a very satisfied customer. Use them.

2/2: I looked across the room, and no joke, another coworker had a shirt on with a green x-ray skeleton pattern on their chest. I knew what had to be done. I checked the book. Big Bottom was on there. I made no friends, but I regret nothing. Rest in Peace Rob. Your work means so much to me.

1/2. Years ago... It was a friend/coworker's going away party. We were in a karaoke room. Somehow the singing had turned into a competition of singing inappropriate songs. I was handed the microphone...It was my turn.. I didn't know what to do.

How W. E. B. Du Bois responded to government policing of "anti-American" sentiment during the 1910s:

"I took great satisfaction in being able to sit back in my chair and answer blandly, 'We are seeking to have the Constitution of the United States thoroughly and completely enforced.' ”

RIP Mark Volman, founding member of The Turtles and one half of Flo & Eddie (pictured here - Mark is on the left, Howard Kaylan on the right). I was fortunate enough to do some of my very first live performances as an opening act for Flo & Eddie in 1983 at the Bottom Line in NYC.

This is not a massive decision or any kind of change. Costco has never carried mifepristone in its pharmacies. An anti-abortion group is taking credit for something that didn't happen, possibly to generate disingenuous left-wing ire against one of the few corporations that hasn't gone MAGA.

Ok, I get a lot of car AI slop, all of which I have so far spared anyone bored enough to follow me, but this one was so ridiculous I had to share.

The video for the Damn Yankees' "High Enough" just came on, and I'm realizing that we've reached a point where I can never explain almost any of this to younger people.

"why are we watching this? did people like this?"
"no, not really..."
"but you all watched it?"
"Endlessly. we had no choice."

Every time the news mentions Qatar, I get "The Cutter" by Echo & the Bunnymen stuck in my head.

The Slanted Door was one of the most formative meals I ever had. It was the first time I had a good beer paired with food like it was a fine wine or spirit. Before craft beer was a thing. I was 21 or 22. It was an Ommegang with a spicy noodle dish. Changed my life
