I think I'll have a countdown to 9 pm tonight and call it a year.

I don't buy beef. A friend bought a rib roast and 🤯.

I'll be in bed sleeping. Let me know how it turns out.
Hate freeloaders who join in the New Year's Eve countdown for the last 10 seconds. I've been doing this all year. Where were you back in May

I must conclude that many who love "It's a Wonderful Life" must be enamored with Potter, not Bailey.

Hadn’t done this with the family since before the pandemic, so why not?
Missed the “A Hong Kong Adventure” text right under the title, and oh boy…
This is definitely not your parents’ version of Tchaikovsky’s festive classic “The Nutcracker”.
Let me tell you…

ghost stories for Christmas? I translated another of my old blog post - mum's ghost stories. It turns out they were about girls who died wronged, killed by poverty and patriarchy, and whose misfortunes cast long shadows in the hearts of the girls who survived

Waking up older patients is a cause of complications from hospital stays--increased likelyhoid of falls, delirium, longer stays, increased readmission. My mom's chart literally said 'do not wake'--and they *still* did it.

I remember a white law student whining about how he worked hard for everything (meaning in school, because his parents provided for everything else.)

Chad, the only reason you're working hard is because you're not that smart.

One thing I like about Pope Leo is he straight up reads addresses off of paper. No theatrics at all. It's the content and clarity of the delivery that matter.

You know, I have wondered what might turn Americans off online shopping.
I remember writing years ago about a then-new initiative by Amazon to disrupt local government procurement of things like office and school supplies. Turns out Amazon's become very popular with school districts, and it's using dynamic pricing to rip those schools off.

Amazon Business is billed as a convenient one-stop shop for schools. Reality is more expensive.

Why are people surprised the shooter wasn't captured yet? This is what always happens when the victim is Brown.

A friend shared this today: "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies." -C S Lewis

In late 2020 a Chinese man called Guan Heng travelled to Xinjiang with our BuzzFeed map of detention facilities to provide ground truth for our work - he provided the first corroborating evidence for many sites.

He escaped to the US - then ICE detained him.

Interviewer: give us an example of a time you were proactive.

A: Once when I was collecting the bodies of the dead, one guy we were collecting said, 'I'm not dead yet.' So without hesitating, I picked up a board and whacked 'im good on the head. I took decisive action to keep the process going.

Fun fact:

During Trump's first run, several groups ran polls that asked the question:

"When was America Great?"

The overwhelming choice was the 1950's.

The overwhelming reason was "economic prosperity"

...

Do you notice a pattern in the tax rate on the wealthiest in the 1950's?
