What an 💫amazing💫 day tabling at the Takoma Park Street Festival as Clean Takoma. I got 1,000+ insightful and interesting responses to questions about litter and cleanups, gave trash pickers and reusable gloves to dozens of budding cleanup activists, and chatted with so many neighbors.💚🚮
Kids fill out prompts about litter and cleanups, like what kind of litter do you see most often and how do you define a clean community? A bustling Takoma Park Street Festival on a beautiful day. More questions. More kids answering for the chance at cleanup and candy prizes. An amazing neighbor tables to give me a break.

What a great community cleanup today in Takoma! 12 neighbors, 10 bags of litter, and lots of great conversations. We distributed some red cards, talked about Spookyville: Haunted Alley, and planned for future cleanups.

Shelters that house unaccompanied minors are bracing for "Freaky Friday," the start of an ICE operation that will first issue letters to children, seeking to pressure them to return to the countries they've fled in exchange for a cash payment. If they decline, their parents will be targeted by ICE.

And on Sunday (Oct 5) I’ll be at the Takoma Park Street Festival (10 am–5 pm on Carroll Ave) tabling as Clean Takoma. Stop by to learn about upcoming cleanups, including Spring Clean Up Week (www.springcleanupweek.com), and connect with neighbors.

It’s a busy weekend in Takoma! On Saturday (Oct 4) at 10 am, join neighbors for our monthly community cleanup at Van Buren St & Piney Branch Rd NW (by Safeway). Supplies provided, plus info on block groups, supporting our neighbors, and a sneak peek at Spookyville.
Join neighbors for a community cleanup on Saturday, October 4 at 10 am. We will meet at Van Buren Street and Piney Branch Road, NW (by the Safeway) and clean the surrounding area.
At the cleanup, we will pick up litter and share details on how to submit 311 requests for city services. We will have supplies on hand, or feel free to bring your own.
We'll also chat about block-level resources to support our neighbors, including forming block groups and protecting our immigrant neighbors, and we will have red cards (know your rights re immigration) available.
Plus, you can learn all about what's coming up for this year's Spookyville: Haunted Alley.
Kids are always welcome and we're happy to sign off on community service hours! We are always rain or shine!

The federal surge didn’t end in DC.

It became entrenched. ICE is still riding with MPD. We have “local control” back & people are still being detained & deported. National Guard is still here with long guns pacing our streets.

Gotta love the stupid fucking low-flying helicopter waking me out of the little sleep I get. I stg it’s flying in the tiniest fucking circles overhead right now.

Plastic bottles make up 60% by weight of all the trash floating on the Anacostia and lining its banks.

We're heading out on the water to see what's at stake, as well as some great restoration efforts, ahead of tomorrow's first hearing on the bottle bill.

I'm looking for someone who might be willing to offer Spanish interpretation at a know your rights event for students & families next Tuesday (Oct 7). This is a community led event so anything we pay for is out of pocket and I'm hoping someone might be up for a skills share, a home cooked meal, etc.
