I reconnected with a girl who I hadn't hung out with since college, and when I asked her to marry me a few years later she said yes.

So that's pretty damn great.

Here are the Subway/Metro Station design guidelines that were compiled by UMTA/USDOT in the 1970s in an attempt to prevent WMATA-style cost overruns again.

It got shelved when everyone at UMTA got laid off and we forgot it. But it's prescient about cost drivers -- rosap.ntl.bts.gov/view/dot/11352

In a functional democracy with a media ecosystem mobilizing to defend the republic this would be #FrontPage news.

Q: Have you given any more thought to possibly suspending habeas corpus?

TRUMP: Suspending who?

Q: Habeas corpus

TRUMP: I don't know. I'd rather leave that to Kristi.

Looking back at this article I wrote the day after the presidential election, it looks like I had pretty good foresight, which just came from paying attention:

Repeal of the IRA, withdraw from Paris Agreement, encouragement of pro-fossil fuel action abroad…
A Climate Scientist on What Trump’s Victory Means for Global Warming
Republicans might not actually repeal the Inflation Reduction Act’s green energy incentives. But Trump can do plenty of damage to international climate progress without that.

Meanwhile, here's part of the amicus brief from the military brass also filed today in the same case, in support of neither party, but definitely not in support of Trump.
Our experience as military leaders has taught us that this commitment keeps our military
stronger and our communities safer. Any domestic deployment that fails to comply with the
foundational principles of the Posse Comitatus Act and similar authorities5
poses multiple risks to
the core mission of the Guard, the well-being of the troops, and the safety of the communities they
are committed to protect. First, deploying military personnel in the context of domestic law
enforcement diverts them from their primary mission, which is to train and to be ready to fight and
win the nation’s wars and protect communities after disasters. Accordingly, such assignments
come at the expense of local, state, and national safety, as well as troop morale. Second, activeduty National Guard personnel are neither intended nor specifically trained to conduct domestic
law enforcement operations. This poses a danger to the safety of both the troops and the public.
Third, use of federal military personnel in the context of law enforcement operations should be a
last resort to avoid the politicization of the military, which inevitably erodes public trust, hurts
recruitment, and undermines troop morale. Peaceful protests of government actions are
constitutionally protected political speech deserving of the highest protection, not intimidation by
the military

But in the late 1990s, a Wired journalist warned of a toxic ideology bubbling up from tech. Paulina Borsook has largely been erased. Let's change that

A lot of 💡’s here on much needed new communications strategies
This is why truth in the participatory media landscape often looks different than truth in a peer-reviewed journal. It is shaped less by argument than by affirmation. A message feels true because the community says it is—because trusted voices repeat it, in familiar language, within a shared emotional world. People do not just believe what they see. They believe what they help spread.
