I support this argument in that scenario but I am not a billionaire and it seems premature to me to throw in the towel now.

Assume they're 3X as efficient. That's still a couple hundred million dollars a year.

And they don't inherit any of the existing assets or relationships, need to reinvent/reestablish everything. Lack "official" status. Just one more org seeking info from employers/households.

Its budget is over a half billion dollars a year. That would be very hard to fundraise privately.

An independent board of credible experts to monitor and comment on ongoing developments at BLS would be useful and could be had for less than a million a year.

It's amazing to me how Adobe has "improved" Acrobat into almost-uselessness

Aaron is spot on, our paper shows that Trump proposed a 17% reduction in FTEs and currently 34% of senior career staff positions sit empty. Without adequate budget and without protecting these career positions we risk losing this independent analysis. www.americanprogress.org/shareable/mo...

Independence and funding are complements, not substitutes.

We cannot fix attacks on independence just with funding.

Exempt BLS & other statistical agencies from Schedule Policy/Career reform. Re-establish meaningful cause protection for Commissioner.

The real value of the Bureau of Labor Statistics's budget has fallen for over a decade.

The president is proposing deep cuts alongside other attacks on the agency.

Progress requires Congress to re-establish BLS independence & support innovation & funding.

eventually politicians need to start advocating for criminal and civil penalties for people involved in fabricating stories to get citizens incarcerated.

or, put another way: a society that would like to keep functioning has to discourage baldfaced lying, especially by authorities

Bottom line: Workers face substantial monthly earnings risk that, to this point, has been missed when analysing annual data. This risk is borne primarily by relatively low-income, hourly workers and is largely driven by fluctuations in firms’ labour demand, which induces substantial costs on affected workers. This column shows that these earnings fluctuations represent genuine, welfare-relevant risk that materially shapes household decisions and has attendant effects on the economy.

It's a pretty big deal that the NYC Bar Association--one of the most prominent and respected bar associations in the country--is accusing the President of ordering the "unlawful summary execution," i.e. murder--of civilians in violation of US and international law. www.nycbar.org/press-releas...

A must read for ANYONE who wants to understand why Black women are experiencing a uniquely bad labor market and why the 300,000 number isn't telling the full story.

Dr. Valerie Wilson gets deep into the data around job losses and why paying attention to Black women matters. #blacksky
