Just a reminder on what would have been the 52nd anniversary of #Roe that we have less rights than our mothers and grandmothers, and low income women will be forced to give birth as a result of long travel times.

Aaron is spot on, our paper shows that Trump proposed a 17% reduction in FTEs and currently 34% of senior career staff positions sit empty. Without adequate budget and without protecting these career positions we risk losing this independent analysis. www.americanprogress.org/shareable/mo...

Independence and funding are complements, not substitutes.

We cannot fix attacks on independence just with funding.

Exempt BLS & other statistical agencies from Schedule Policy/Career reform. Re-establish meaningful cause protection for Commissioner.

The real value of the Bureau of Labor Statistics's budget has fallen for over a decade.

The president is proposing deep cuts alongside other attacks on the agency.

Progress requires Congress to re-establish BLS independence & support innovation & funding.

New from Kyle Ross and me, breaking down the budget and staffing issues in FY26 dollars. The BLS needs experienced nonpartisan leadership, and adequate funding to restore trust and ensure accuracy.

We wrote this before the shutdown but the analysis is still just as important. Healthcare workers, who are mostly women, are the backbone of our economy, but Trump's attacks on health care and repubs refusal to extend the ACA tax credits threaten the industry

What To Know Before September’s Jobs Day Report: Falling Wages and Stalling Employment Growth
In August, women held up the economy while their wages faltered in industries such as health care. Will the September Employment Situation report show more of the same?

An epic and predictable economic disaster. In South Carolina, Lindsey Graham has been an active participant in and promoter of this disaster in tossing aside his previous support for free trade in service to Trump. South Carolina needs @drannieandrews.com.

Trump's tariffs and attacks on stable green energy jobs are all likely contributing to the rapid decline in manufacturing employment since April. Check @kennedyandara.bsky.social and my latest column with today's jobs numbers. #NumbersDay #EconSky

"Since...Trump’s tariff announcement in April...manufacturing employment has declined by 42,000, while job openings and hires have fallen by 76,000 and 18,000, respectively."

A line chart titled, "The manufacturing sector has lost 42,000 jobs since April 2025," shows the cumulative change in employment for that year. The x-axis displays the months from April to August 2025, and the y-axis shows the change in jobs in thousands. A single line starts at 0 in April and steadily declines to a final value of -42,000 in August. An annotation labels the starting point in April as "Liberation Day."

The larger-than-usual downward revision last month was in large part driven by a negative skew in the job growth distribution among late reporting firms. That’s unusual, but it’s happened before when the pace of job growth slows rapidly. This print is more evidence that was the case

1.77 American employees quit their job for each employee fired by their boss in July per today's new #JOLTS data.

This proxy for worker bargaining power in jobs is steady versus June but declining over recent, post-pandemic years.

When the labor market is hot, workers who switch jobs can usually expect a pay bump. Right now, job switchers are experiencing the same wage growth as stayers, a sign that employers have the upper hand.
