one of my thoughts, that i don’t think is really true but sometimes feels true, is that liberals have mostly won Cultural Victory without corresponding Political Victory, and vice versa for conservatives, and no one is happy about it because if they had to choose one they’d would prefer the opposite

i love all the FNV DLCs, but most importantly i love them because they’re so different that even people who hate one of them will love one of the others

like there’s no consensus “the bad one,” they just each make such big Choices that it’s understandable if one of them is extremely not your thing

I can't stop thinking about this. We're pursuing zero fire risk in multifam, while tolerating much more in single-fam. People respond by building and living in single-fam, where they're exposed to not only one of the highest fire death risks in the developed world, but also TONS more car crash risk

no matter how long i’ve been a renter, the complete unpredictability of annual inspections remains a source of tremendous irritation

place is in decent shape so it’s not a problem but still, last year we got a week’s notice and a virtual option, this year it’s 24 hours notice and full entry

You can disregard all this of course, run how you like (or not at all), but I genuinely believe many people hate running because they’re simply running too hard. Easy days shouldn’t feel punishing at all!

Anyway 80/20 volume split where the 80 is easy (HR-based or “can converse with someone”) and the 20 is hard workouts (speed, hills, or long runs).

Most people naturally default to running harder than they should for the easy work, and easier than they should for the workouts.

Bluesky runners: maybe old news to some of yall but I've been consistently extremely confused by all the "zone 2" talk (what's too easy and what's too hard? based on lactate or heart rate or pace? etc) and this is by far the best thing I've read on it

Yes this means I have never watched Great British Bake Off, Making a Murderer, Hard Knocks, or MythBusters (other than snippets as marathons played in the background during holidays), among many other things

It’s also only television — I do read non-fiction (maybe 60/40 split, fiction to non) and watch documentary films

Can’t put my finger on it but it is what it is

I’m sure I could come up with many others given some thought, but the biggest by size is “nearly all unscripted or non-fiction television” — have seen very very little reality shows, game shows, competition shows, documentary, entertainment news, true crime, you name it
