I get your point but I only know my own reasons for wanting to defend the label. The way chronically online people read signifiers is actually bad and not congruent with how the larger population uses political labels and I want to push back against that. The context doesn't make it valid.

Personally, I think it's partly about how it feels like the foundations of liberalism are being challenged by the post-liberal right and should be defended affirmatively rather than shrugged off. Also 99% of americans who are left of center identify as liberal and don't use some other online label
