School/retreat I organised with @intp-science.bsky.social. No publications, big name speakers, $$ benefit. Just people - PhD students, young professionals, academics, independent researchers, activists, artists, +2 teenagers and 1 toddler - exploring science, creativity, and the beautiful Pyrenees 💗

INTP wishes you a great start to the 2025 academic year!
We kicked off with the first edition of the Interdisciplinary Science School last week! 🧪
Ecology, theatre, anthropology, yoga, and more!
✨ Huge thanks to all participants and especially to @estere-sei.bsky.social! 🙏

congrats @evakaulich.bsky.social, great work! and cool to see we have more overlapping research interests now :)

I have direct experience with several of these orgs (volunteering myself + via my close friends' & partner's work). They provide vital support and they are run by people with simultaneously the biggest hearts and the best "get sh*t done" attitude that I've ever met. If you care, please donate.
distributeaid.org
Over the last three years, we have lost partner org after partner org in Europe due to funding cuts to civil society actors- especially ones assisting refugees and migrants.

Yet, the need is as high as ever. That is why we have joined the Where We Rise movement: buff.ly/V9ZGeGO
Colourful bands for the "Where We Rise" logo. The background image is of a blue ocean. The text reads "United, loud, defiant, abundant - join us in raising 1 million euros to support civil society organisations, uniting to stand with people seeking safety"
estere-sei.bsky.social
oh yes, combining with an EBI visit should be even easier - I still live in Cambridge, next to the train station now, in London a couple of times a week :)
estere-sei.bsky.social
are you in Liverpool then? good luck for the talk, and let me know if you happen to pass via London and have a spare hour for a coffee :)

Using your TMT analysis example is essentially how I (and essentially our lab at @cellbiol-mrclmb.bsky.social ) got into proteomics analysis in 2019-2020, which has kind of now become my main career since 2023, so I'm really looking forward to reading this. Thank you so much!

(Picnic lunch at Jardin du Luxembourg that was meant to say)
estere-sei.bsky.social
Having picnic lunch before my train to Toulouse was cool, wasting hours on communicating with insurance (never use Aviva!) was less so

Cool! Last time I went to @intp-science.bsky.social which is close to Perpignan/Barcelona I was supposed to fly from STN (£20 vs £200 train when I looked in advance) but Stansted had an IT failure when I arrived, so instead of q'ing I turned around and went to London to catch a Eurostar :)

The event that I'm organising - interdisciplinary science school/retreat (INTS) @intp-science.bsky.social is fully-booked but a) you can still join these, mindful research/co-working retreats in July b) you can express your interest (& get 15EUR off) for INTS 2026 bit.ly/exp_interest

I've also got an unofficial "best question of the day" (on multiomics hype) award from @jamesmacraedonkey.bsky.social, which I said I'd put on my CV - but maybe a bluesky account that barely has any followers is good enough? 😅

I've really enjoyed the facilities day @cruk-cityoflondon.bsky.social and all the interactive discussions! Again, I've just started the job, and it's my first one in a core facility/STP, but that made it even more interesting for me to engage in this, learn more, and meet great colleagues
cruk-cityoflondon.bsky.social
Today our world-class facilities staff gather to discuss latest research, emerging technologies, and career development. We have a packed programme covering the full scope of expertise on offer to researchers at our Centre @crick.ac.uk @qmbci.bsky.social @kingslsm.bsky.social @uclmedsci.bsky.social
estere-sei.bsky.social
And now #EuPA2025 too.. still unsure whether this was this the worst or the best month to start a new proteomics job!

First time I'm "officially" #TeamMassSpec during a big mass spec/proteomics conference but not actually there: #ASMS2025 hasn't even properly started yet, and I'm already having FOMO looking at BlueSky this morning - assuming that's normal..?

this week I've been working on a proposal for @navigation.org open science call, and am now seriously tempted to just submit today's xkcd instead: xkcd.com/3101/

Just saw this pop up @royalsociety.org - royalsociety.org/science-even.... I often don't feel comfortable dwelling on scientists' bios, but that seems to be part of this talk. Coincidence (or synchronicity?) that it came up 1d after I posted the below, & that Ben works at @rosfrankinst.bsky.social ?
estere-sei.bsky.social
I was also really in a "preaching to the choir" situation when Ben talked about what Crick meant by central dogma, and why we shouldn't just do RNA-seq or even chase protein numbers in omics. So far this seems to be a pretty solid unifying theme of my scientific career...
estere-sei.bsky.social
Really enjoyed the talk from Ben @bendavisgroup.bsky.social yesterday at @cruk-cityoflondon.bsky.social hosted by @silviasurinova.bsky.social. I'm still v new here at UCL but it was great to hear how cool chemistry can be applied to bio questions + chat about innovation, proteomics & weird PTMs!

Curious what is the distribution of downloads/user? I imagine there are people whose projects are based on existing datasets, who may download 1 in 4 or 1 in 10, and many who go looking for something specific and download one ever. Per dataset not sure, would be happy to hear if it's >1 in 100 :)

The PRIDE Dataset Bot 🤖 doesn’t sleep. It formats. It renders. It posts. If it sparked joy (or just didn’t break anything), smash that ❤️. Feedback fuels its ego.

The PRIDE team wants to get feedback on each service we put out there. Now is the time for the Dataset Bot. 🤖

Thanks so much for the tips! Unfortunately motivating myself and prioritising watching something online is much harder than attending an exciting event with cool people in a new place, but still good to keep in mind. An alternative is just following you here I guess! 😀
