Anyone know of a defaults setting to default embed PDFs into #AppleNotes as the compact "small" view and not "here's a gigantic embedded viewer that I *never ever want* inside a note?

I used to watch my daughter just drive off the track in Forza and tear around the countryside and I couldn't figure out why she found that fun but then I realized that 90% of what I do in RDR2 is literally just that.

Picture a shipping container (40ft/12m). I'm transmitting #hamradio waves that long from a wire on my Seattle house. They bounce off ions 50km/30mi above the earth and, in this case, down to Mexico. The remote station replies the same way.

I'm using 10 watts, less than the lightbulb in an oven.

“Gee thanks MOM” (I roll my eyes and storm off)

Letting the clothesline on my roof receive #hamradio transmissions from around the country. East of the Mississippi stations bouncing off the ionosphere and back down to me very effectively right now on radio waves that are about as long as a blue whale (20m).

without a doubt the sleeper gadget hit for me this year has been this power bank with retractable cables. I 100% thought it was a silly gimmick but it has been the most used tech in the house for months. love that the cables are both always there & tucked away. love the readout on % & watts in/out.

Ah yes the "we have a timeless logo, let's trash it with cheap looking 3d" design approach. Real courage, Apple.

2025-Q3 Writing & Term Stack:

I still use DEVONthink but am doing bigger writing projects in Obsidian since it's just SO MUCH BETTER to actually WRITE TEXT in.

I've moved away from Prompt to Ghostty.

My Nova sub is up & I may move to Zed (faster, better plugin ecosystem).

You don't need wifi, the internet or bluetooth to sync your clocks automatically. All you need is 1950s radio tech.

All our wall clocks are synced via a big antenna in Colorado. WWVB does all the work. Atomic accurate.

(one guess which pres tried to kill these stations recently)

*CUTE* - Toyota IMV Origin. Comes in a crate. DIY truck design for rural African markets.

Wish stuff like this was launched in the US. America gets the worst cars. I keep waiting for the Slate EV to launch here. Where are all the BYD EVs?

DIYer tool-tip:

A drill powered pump is one of those things that I use once a quarter but makes certain jobs SO much easier. This is 50 gallons of emergency/earthquake water and the drill pump pulls it out in about 15 minutes.
