Here's an example of what I was talking about--it was from the 1/6 pardons he made the day he was inaugurated and looks similar (though I long ago lost my ability to distinguish between the typewriter-type fonts)

A sign from Baraboo, Wisconsin. The artist was 6 and this photo was taken with the artist's and mom's permission.

"How can they read the founding documents of our country?" The same way I do--in books and online. You can see the originals at the National Archives but they're faded, and the script used is illegible to most modern readers.

I did a rainbow once--six strands, and I basically made six small batches, by weight (mixed the coloring into the wet).

Challah? It's not difficult--the technique is basically, mix the dry, mix the wet, combine, knead, rise (90-120 min), punch, rest, shape, rise (45-90 min), brush with egg yolk, bake.

Shaping can be as complex as you want it to be. A simple braid, or an unintentionally phallic turkey.

My grandparents owned a bakery from the 1940s through 1986 or so. My sister and I could go behind the counter and pick out cookies.

I have their cookie recipe but it's not the same. I do their challah well. Sometimes I make it into fun shapes, like this uterus flipping the bird with her "hand."
