... but I did not like the Life of a Showgirl, and criticism of this album has been a wonderful and entertaining distraction.

this line from The Alternative review has me cackling: “'I like ‘em cloaked in Gucci and in scandal'”–give me a fucking break." www.getalternative.com/album-review...
Album Review: Taylor Swift – 'The Life of a Showgirl'
Taylor Swift has never been less of an underdog, but all throughout 'The Life of a Showgirl' she can't help but cosplay one.

I suspect it's because these people are too cowardly to stand up for what's right, lest it lower stock prices. fucking shameful.

the principle behind "free and open discussion" is more the hallmark of a civilized, literate democracy than it is strictly representative of a free speech ideal. conflating the two is funny because we are actually eating away at that in this country, due to other factors (e.g. social media).

I would argue that the original principle of "free speech" is: we are allowed to say anything we want in the way of criticism against government/other entities as long as it's not harming anyone.

now, people pretend it's "I can say anything I want regardless if it's harmful to any particular group"

this is more of an attempt than I've made to read any heavy-hitting classics (modern or otherwise) post public school. I managed to get 1984 in as it became rather timely, but that one is actually a very short read!

get it in while you still can ;) #booksky
