there is no silver lining to our authoritarian decline (it's daily hell), but here's more post-hoc condemnation of the last 10 years of partisan politics that makes me feel a bit saner.

cannot understate this - anyone who continues to allow themselves to be viewed as a Republican, when Trump has distorted the party beyond all recognition, should be labeled and treated as a fascist. traditional party lines mean nothing when what we need is opposition.

INCLUDE THE RECEIPTS! ALL OF THEM! they have slandered THEMSELVES over and over and over. It is an easy job.
The government argued that the plaintiffs (all risking loss of work authorization and legal immigration status as of tomorrow) didn't have standing because Haiti might not be that bad or DHS might not target them.

Judge Reyes found those arguments absurd, citing Noem again.

"have never been accused being there," he says, while defending himself against an accusation of having been there, by a member of the media
Trump: “Noah, a total loser, better get his facts straight. It looks like I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope and suing him for plenty$. Ask Little George Slopadopolus how that all worked out. Also ask CBS! Get ready Noah, I’m going to have some fun with you!”

so executing people in the streets is a power granted by the constitution? Try again Menendez. Yet another example of well-intentioned people trying to reason with the unreasonable.
Judge Menendez denies Minnesota plaintiffs’ request to end Operation Metro Surge because they don’t meet the high bar set by the 10th Amendment, but she also points to what she doesn’t decide, including the legality of what ICE is doing on the ground.

For decades the Right has daydreamed about saving their country from monsters, they finally got the chance and it turns out they love the monsters. The monsters are even monstrous in the exact ways they fantasized about! You never have to listen to these guys about anything again

I don't have any MAGAs in my life, but if you do, make sure they see all the stuff about Trump in this latest Epstein release.

If they claim it's unverified, ask them how likely they think it is that all these different 13-14 year old girls made up all these strikingly similar stories about ... 1/

I know that people have been cutting off MAGA relatives etc. for years now. But I think all of us with functioning critical thinking can finally let down a sigh of relief around the expectation for both-sidesing. There is no both-sidesing here.

There is just resistance. This is not hyperbole.

look, I like Taylor Swift cultural analysis. I like her legacy in popular culture (that is — an unironic feminine stronghold the likes of which don't normally take center stage in our world). I LOVE folklore. her music has a place in the evolution of my musical tastes...

this is GROSS! CANCEL YOUR PRIME SUBSCRIPTION!
twice a year the entire U.S. press becomes a marketing extension of a single billionaire-owned retailer, and nobody in any position of editorial power thinks it's weird or gross

since I started making todo lists as an adult, they very quickly lost their sort of pure usefulness because of how overwhelming it is to have a lot to do.

seems like they're finally coming back around... it's useful to make them, even if not all of it gets done or it gets done in a chaotic way :)

If any other president in all of history said the military should use American cities as a training ground he would be removed from office that same day. The hardest thing to tolerate in all this is how relatively silent elected democrats are. It’s ridiculous.
September 30, 2025 at 2:57 PM
seriously, why the fuck isn't this happening? why haven't we heard jack fucking shit from Democrats as this country careens headlong into fascism?
In a sane country with competent leadership, the 50 highest-ranking Democrats would call a press conference to denounce what just happened as a threat to the republic and demand Trump's immediate impeachment and removal from office.

I don't know he could make his intentions more clear.

I don't think the people expressing surprise about things the Trump administration is doing understand how absolutely fucking crazymaking each of your posts is for Black and Indigenous folks who called *all of this* and sat through people talking about "respecting norms" for years

damn. I have made some mistakes in life (some even sizable), and I often doubt my own competence. but at least I didn't fuck up as monumentally as any of the Republicans who voted not to convict Trump after he was impeached and play a direct role in ushering fascism into this country

thoughtful analysis. gets at how "free speech" has been co-opted by the right as a sort of negative virtue signal, to play on peoples' reluctance to be more tolerant (and, at times, plain white extremism/racism/xenophobia)
I have a couple of comments about the "free speech hero" narrative about Charlie Kirk.

First, was Charlie Kirk really notable for supporting the free speech of people he disagreed with? I haven't noticed that, though I could have missed it.

accurately captures the leading sentiment I feel about *gestures broadly* but for a different contextual reason. not that that matters!
I do not care for the number of cameras I am captured by on any given day. I'm a nice little lady doing no evil deeds but on my walk to the damn library I hear this little voice coming from above saying "You are being recorded" and I feel like I'm in a dystopian teen novel, I hate it.

maybe this is the moment when we can agree political violence of any kind is bad, and that includes getting involved in geopolitical conflicts that do not directly involve us, but instead serve to prop up our dwindling economic influence.

maybe instead of America First, America Morally Consistent?
