Before Las Cruces passed zoning reform, residents voiced concerns about traffic, taxes, and neighborhood change — many similar to debates in Albuquerque today.
Part 2 of our conversation digs into what people feared and what actually happened. #abq #albuquerque

I’d love to see real row houses in ABQ
A Washington Post article suggests that, beyond a certain threshold, larger homes don't make people happier. Instead, well-being is correlated with affordable housing in walkable neighborhoods where they feel socially connected.

If you live in ABQ and want to see the city become more vibrant and livable, please speak in favor of reducing parking mandates and increasing support for incremental community-led development!
The land use committee will start considering parking mandate reductions on the 14th at 4pm! Share widely and sign up to speak in favor of the proposed IDO amendments which would help with this, as well as middle housing, TOD, and walkable tienditas/bodegas!

As Albuquerque debates zoning reform, we went to Las Cruces to learn from a city that’s already done it.
Why did they change their zoning—and what actually happened afterward?

Overnight the President ordered the invasion of Venezuela and capture of its President. While Maduro clearly is a corrupt and illegitimate thug who oversaw the destabilization and suffering of millions, the fact remains that the U.S. President is acting on authority he does not have. ⬇️

So they don't kick in until after the midterms.

It’s building from the foundation!
New year, same reminder: The recipe for economic growth isn’t tax cuts for the rich. It’s investment in our people — in health care, infrastructure and education — to build a strong middle class.

You don't grow the economy through trickle-down nonsense.

This seems well aligned with the goals of @strongtownsabq.bsky.social in ABQ and beyond
We've made it very easy to cut out the messy, time-consuming stuff that actually builds real relationships.

But "inconvenience is the cost of community," and if you want a village, it takes showing up, working through conflict and choosing people over convenience.

The price of belonging is inconvenience. Are we still willing to pay it?
Every time we choose people over convenience, we invest in community. The real question in our homes, workplaces and democracies is whether we are willing to pay that price.

Parking spaces can cost developers up to $50,000 each. Dropping the mandate to have them at all opens the door to cheaper housing and walkable neighborhoods.

Denver study shows removing parking requirements results in more affordable housing being built
Structured parking can cost as much as $50,000 per space, making housing more expensive to build and for those living there.
