There are a lot of conspiracies about a plot to make it so the US has to import food, despite, as you said, most of those crops going to biofuels and not food. There are absolutely some astroturf-y groups pushing these narratives here, fake as they might be

I live in a county in Indiana that has passed a moratorium on industrial-scale solar, and a lot of the opposition here at the local level is specifically to putting solar on farm land.

It's so industrial their zoning map only bothers to color in the parts of the city that *aren't* industrial. The big chunk of residential in the middle is literally an uninhabitable Superfund site because they built a housing project and elementary school on top of an abandoned lead smelter

The remarkable thing is that compared to the book, they take *forever* to get to the spicy stuff. The PROLOGUE of the book is them sleeping together, before you get any backstory whatsoever
