I grew up in the suburbs in the 80s & 90s, we didn't really have Head Shops. What we did have, was some comic shops that had existed forever that along with the comics and D&D stuff, also sold some weird tubes behind the counter, lots of black light posters, & albums from bands you'd never heard of.
