Please donate to EVLovesNYC so we can feed people all over the city. Don’t wait until the end of the year — we can’t wait that long. The desperate demand for food, today and in the coming months, bids us to take on the work the government won’t do.

Your support allows @evlovesnyc.bsky.social to make these gourmet-inspired meals which we take and personally deliver to the Astoria Food Pantry.

Alone we can do so little.
Together we can accomplish so much

The bill adds $3.3 trillion in debt. That violates the statutory paygo law of 2010 that requires across-the-board sequestration cuts. Many accounts (like Social Security and some low-income programs) are exempted from that. But Medicare is not. Here's the breakdown:
Therefore, OMB would be required to issue an order reducing spending by $330 billion by January 2026. Many accounts are exempted from sequestration, including Social Security and several programs affecting low-income Americans. But Medicare is not.

There is a limitation on Medicare cuts of 4 percent of the program. In fiscal year 2026, that would come out to $45 billion. These cuts would increase with the growth of the program, hitting $75 billion by 2034 according to CBO. The total ten-year cuts would equal $490 billion.

President Trump has promised that he would not touch Medicare over the course of his presidency; of course, he said yesterday that Medicaid wouldn’t be touched either, something he was told was untrue by House Republicans.

A hungry city is not a safe city. A hungry city is a place where we have to lock up baby formula in cages in our grocery stores as people grow desperate for ways to feed their families. That’s not New York.

Running for office? Currently holding office? Come work in our kitchen and meet the New Yorkers you hope to represent. You'll see how your votes on policies and budgets can mean life or death to food-insecure people.

Thank you, Zohran Mamdani, for your Q&A with asylum seekers about your platform and political views at Cafewal this winter. You listened to human stories about the very real struggle so many New Yorkers face when trying to access basic human needs. We will hold you accountable for these words.

Hi friends.

Food insecurity is a policy choice. It’s a non partisan issue and @evlovesnyc.bsky.social is committed to fighting against it. Whether it’s new NYers here to seek asylum in the face of harsh immigration crack downs, or a native NYer priced out of their home.

MAGA may call the proposed budget that the House passed last week “big and beautiful” but it seems more “cruel and dangerous” to us.

The budget cuts federal food assistance for 1.8 MILLION NEW YORKERS, INCLUDING A HALF MILLION NY CHILDREN. 2/3
evlovesnyc.bsky.social
This budget “efficiency” means that parents will skip meals to make sure their kids can eat. Older New Yorkers on fixed incomes will resort to less healthy but more affordable food options. And many more working New Yorkers have to turn to food banks like EVLovesNYC to get through the week. 3/3
