Thinking about this cool detail from one of my favorite games, 13 Sentinels. It does a lot to make the '80s Japan setting feel faithful, including styling the in-game idol Miyuki Inaba after the real world Minako Honda. Her "Seaside Vacation" LP is a visual reference to the 1985 album M'Syndrome!!

Shimekazari is a traditional Japanese New Year decoration made from shimenawa, a sacred straw rope. It is placed outside the front door, at entrances, or on household shrines. It is usually put up in late December, taken down in mid-January, and burned at a shrine during the Dondoyaki ritual.

Happy #Forestfriday Everyone

One of my favorite trees-a dead Ponderosa
It blocks my view of the distant mountains

Yet-Still one of my favorites

Let them see the beautiful blendings and communions
of death and life, their joyous inseparable unity-Muir

If you want a thought-provoking book on freedom, self-worth and breaking away from other people’s expectations, I’d recommend The Courage to Be Disliked.
Written as a dialogue between a philosopher and a young man, it’s simple on the surface but surprisingly expansive.

Jung and Freud were still widely respected and credible. So I'll allow him that leeway.

Then I learned about Adler. Alfred Adler specifically. I'd heard the name in passing, but I had never actually looked into him until tonight and what I found blew my mind.
