If Ukraine and Hong Kong were taken out - two “popular with voters” routes - the numbers would be a lot lower. Who else should have been targeted? The Students subsiding home fees? The Workers being double-taxed for an NHS that barely functions (who were, for the record, targeted by the Tories too)?

In grand scheme of Labour's blatantly xenophobic and hostile treatment of migrants, social media posts may seem like small potatoes, but they are the main thing many people will see, and set the tone for much of the debate. It's yet another sign of Labour stocking division.

Very long thread: As with many of Labour's anti-immigration policies, this isn't new. British police have been stationed in other countries for this purpose for a long time

Plus everyone reports it as ILR increasing from 5 to 10 years. But there will be a far larger groups on the 15 year pathway than on the 10 year pathway.

I wish there was also more noise being made about the loss of the 10 year/Long Residence route. I've long wished everyone could qualify after five years, now suddenly the Long Residence is going? Its devastating!
