Citizenship is a right, not a privilege.

A two-tiered approach to citizenship sets a dangerous precedent that encourages a principle of double punishment, with deeply racialised outcomes.

Nadim Zahawi arrived in the UK from Iraq as a child refugee. His family claimed asylum once they were here. Today he has joined Reform who will stop all in country asylum applications. Under his new party, his own family fleeing persecution would be immediately deported.

Plus everyone reports it as ILR increasing from 5 to 10 years. But there will be a far larger groups on the 15 year pathway than on the 10 year pathway.

"This is theft on a state level, with little to no chance of people being able to replace the phones and contacts once it has happened," said Daniel Sohege.

Once again, Labour dehumanising those seeking safety, to appeal to those who will never support them.

who could have predicted that stopping international students, care workers and nurses from coming to the UK would damage the economy/public finances while yielding precisely no political benefits?

Oh. Me.

This is why the Government's strategy is doomed. The British public's view of immigration is completely disconnected from reality, and copying the last government by pursuing increasingly vicious crackdowns on legal migration is delivering the same outcome.

Not just the USA.

The entire Western world has entrenched this discrimination through extortionate fees, passport regulations, and violence along colonial lines.

So goods may flow freely, but people may not.

On crucial issues the BBC now barely even tries to report facts, only the perspectives of particular political actors on the facts, & without helping anyone understand which perspectives might be worthy of belief. This helped lead to Brexit & now it‘s helping to normalise fascism internationally

The last time I checked a couple of years ago, the Home Office cost recovery target on visa processing was 202%, but in the latest annual report it was 241% - meaning that for every £100 it costs to administer the visa system, the department aims to raise £241 in fees.

Strong stuff from the Chancellor 💪🏻 One slight prob: her gov's NRPF policy (which restricts access to MOST benefits not just UC & which they're planning to extend to those w/ ILR) does precisely this: discriminates between children based on where parents are from www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Indifference doesn’t create meaningful change. Neutrality doesn’t achieve migrant justice. Instead, indifference creates a vacuum that allows the far-right to thrive.

If you read anything today, please make it this excellent piece. Racism & nativism are catastrophic & must be defeated if we’re to avoid disaster. Voluntary migration is great & makes a better world for us all. Expand free movement wherever possible. We have to stop apologising & go on the attack.
"Go to any small town, in the US, UK, or EU, listen to young people there and you’ll hear talk of 'getting out.' If that is what they want, they should be free to make a go of it. Free movement with other countries increases their choices in doing so." www.liberalcurrents.com/we-need-to-g...
