Smiling with her broad, disarming eyes, Suze said "well lads, either you are plotting to steal all the ale or something else is happening." Then with a laughter in her voice, "spill it now, before I'm forced to torture it out of you." They all knew Suze was only half joking. The torture might not be physical, but Suze controlled the ale tap, and that control could be used to dole out the harshest of punishments in Boar. Harr broke the awkward silence, "Wald and Frano think there are ghosts in the woods."

Brambon looked up, he would never admit it, but he had a soft spot for Quill, and was not happy about her going out past the wall with Georgie as her only chaperone. Brambon trusted Georgie, but Georgie was still a (very) full grown man. Brambon stood "I'll come along too." Quill suspected Brambon would come too. He was not exactly clingy, yet she knew he would do anything for her. At the same time, Karlon stood too "Hold on, now! Going outside the wall at this time? In this cold?"

The evening concluded with the sort of superficial politeness that masked fundamental tensions, but the social damage had been done. More importantly, the entire situation had been witnessed by enough people to ensure that local society would soon be discussing the romantic triangle with the sort of enthusiastic interest that generated gossip, speculation, and pressure for dramatic resolution.
