OH, THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING IN THE STOCKING THAT MAKES A NOISE, said Death. OTHERWISE, WHAT IS 4:30 A.M. FOR?

Old school AD&D wasn’t just a game, it was a ritual of chaos, imagination, and the eternal cry: Wait, do I get a saving throw for that?!
Weekends vanished quicker than hit points in a gelatinous cube, one small crawl and suddenly it was Monday.

The ancient rite of goblinification: legend says it takes precisely 437 cranberries, eaten under a waning moon while a goose recites bylaws. Of course, most people give up around berry 112, at which point you simply become mildly tart and start haunting salad bars.
#FableFoolery #CranberryGoblin
I'm not exactly sure how many cranberries you have to eat before transmogrifying into a cranberry goblin but I get the feeling I'm about to find out.

The Council of Fantasy decreed that every saga must contain:

One sarcastic blond who can quip faster than he can swordfight.

One barbarian woman whose devotion to potatoes borders on religious.

At least three improbable remakes disguised as “original quests.”

#FableFoolery #FantasyFilms
My take: since both are fantasy films with a sarcastic blond anti-hero and a barbarian woman who really likes potatoes, Dungeons & Dragons:Honor Among Thieves is technically a remake of Deathstalker and the Warriors From Hell.

The 1980s strapped on aviator shades and declared itself a genre. Top Gun was less a film than a ritual: jets roared, volleyballs glistened, and Kenny Loggins became a minor deity of the skies.
Be kind, rewind.
#FableFoolery #1980sCinema #TopGun
the 80s were so very sweaty

and this is a very good movie
top gun has a 50 on metacritic and a 5.9 on imdb ???

Hogswatch; potatoes, pigs & improbable joy
The Hogfather himself rode in on four pigs named Olly, Folly, Golly, & Melancholy.
Thus the festival was secured: a celebration of everything ending in ‑olly, plus the occasional tax rebate for carol singers.

a lonely reader gathered every Discworld tome into a towering stack so high it developed weather patterns. The Librarian swung by, declared “Ook,” and the stack became a book club all on its own.
The book club already exists, waiting for you to notice the quorum of novels arguing in the living room.
Wish I could find a Discworld book club, where we just read Discworld books. I own nearly all of them but have no one to talk to about them as I read :(

How these rules came about: a pond applied for sentience and was granted conditional consciousness by the Department of Wet Mysteries. It immediately hired a witch, adopted a wererout, and began burning with cold unholy fire every third Tuesday.
You know, I'm not sure I ever really read the Pond Rules at our local nature preserve all that closely before

Once upon a time, a great Oracle lived in a golden library. Ask it anything, and it would pluck the precise scroll from the shelf, dust it off with owl feathers, and hand you the truth wrapped in velvet.
But then the Oracle grew bored...
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

The Truth feels so gritty because somewhere between ink and sausage rolls, journalism became a contact sport.

Eat it up, but beware the next scoop may be about you, written by a goose with impeccable sources.

#fablefoolery #discworld #TheTurth #Pratchett
I'm like halfway into The Truth and honestly it's probably the best Discworld book yet. It's basically a City Watch book but from an outside perspective and even grittier than usual so it's really refreshing, I'm absolutely eating it up

Invented modern fantasy?
Not quite Tolkien just gave it an accent and extra walking. As for Nazgûl, maybe writers avoid them because nine undead introverts on horseback are hard to fit into a tavern scene.
Or once you summon nine undead horsemen, they unionize, demand dental, and haunt the plot.

Ah yes, the day the turtle took up world-carrying as a full-time gig. Proof that the universe runs on imagination, magic, and a suspicious amount of paperwork. 🐢📚 #Discworld #FableFoolery
Published on this day in 1983, The Colour of Magic.

In the beginning there was…a turtle. Somewhere on the frontier between thought and reality exists the #Discworld, a parallel time and place which might sound and smell very much like our own, but which looks completely different.

Anxious? Naturally. Things that were, things that are, things yet to come… and the cursed paperwork that insists that destiny requires three signatures and a blood sample.

That’s the true magic of Discworld. If it’s Pratchett’s invention or Britain’s, either way, they were brewed in a teapot with a sense of mischief.
One problem, albeit a delightful one, I have with the Discworld novels is that I sometimes don't know if Pratchett made up a word or if it's British.

A rotating bookcase for Discworld? Perfect.
Watch out when Guards! Guards! stages a coup and demands to be shelved upside down for dramatic effect
So we found a little rotating bookcase in a thrift shop that’s perfect for our Terry Pratchett Discworld etc hardbacks. We’ll add the missing books in the series still on shelves elsewhere in the house, paint the wood & I do believe it’ll look rather splendid.

Kidby’s Discworld art feels like stepping into a daydream where librarians are orangutans, luggage runs amok, and the shadows have punchlines. Pure wonder!
Sublime exhibition of Paul Kidby's artwork for Terry Pratchett's Discworld, at Worcester Art Gallery.
