Lumines (2004)
(29h)

I still don't know if I like Lumines. Those shapes and patterns sure have a very addictive property but I don't really vibe with the music and especially not with those hard to read skins.
Haven't unlocked everything, but the VS CPU mode was crazy hard, and probably too random.

Every single person that says Geoff killed the game or that it's unethical or idk what else (this reminds me of the negative media literacy discourse around the release of The Beginner's Guide...) need to be taken off the internet and pass a reading exam to be allow back.

THEY RUSHED A TRAILER

Just beat the original Lumines vs CPU mode (holy shit this was insane) and this reddit comment from 7 years ago is very reassuring.

And the way Alan says it just after is exactly what you'd want. But it's hard to not see a parallel between how puzzle games are treated overall and how Blow and The Witness were, for example. For most it's not about playing other great puzzles, it's just about dragging those ones down.

I've said it before but to me that's the most frustrating thing, when people say fuck Blow / The Witness / Sinking Star, it's usually by making him the only person involved in those games. They don't care about the team, they pretend to care, often because they already didn't like the games.

I know what Ubisoft needs to do.
There's only one man that can save them.

That weird lizard man from the Gregg Araki movies will return in Avengers: Doomsday.

Sinon il y a quelques jours il s'est passé ça :

J'ai failli lancer le daily en stream, ça aurait pu être drole...

but optimising stuff is still great, and it feels different enough from their other games, with a different focus, that it still feels interesting.
I really like not having an output area or to care about looping.

It had some negative reviews complaining about the lack of complexity, but I think Kaizen still got it.
Granted, this solution was awful...

Look, I'm not that into achievement, but I definitely respect RetroAchievement actually waiting for the year to be over before sending their "year in review".
Also I like those highlights:

Le Cine2Nerdle Critical du jour, j'ai pas encore le film mais cette review dit vrai :'D

Oh, that explains a lot then. Same Alex, same.

We need a genre name for metroid games where you have to draw your own map or generally take notes

And for comparison here's an example of a 2025 Annapurna game (so post-everyone leaving), with Messhof's Wheel World

Now, for the release of Echoes of the Eye, in 2021. By that point the game firmly established.

From what I've seen, their biggest tweet sharing a review at release:
December 15, 2025 at 12:50 PM
This one was from a month later, so if you didn't follow at the time, I'd say slightly before people started paying attention.
December 15, 2025 at 12:50 PM
Since I keep using Outer Wilds as an example of games that got no attention at launch, here's a few fun numbers. Just know this drove me crazy at the time, and even more knowing what followed.

Annapurna posted a bunch of gameplay clips on twitter before launch (last one for comparison)
