Okay I feel better now.

I just think, maybe, our parents were onto something when they said video games make you dumb.
January 26, 2026 at 10:39 PM
Yeah no I'm sorry this is just dumb. Use your fucking brain.
And if you write for gaming outlets: stop doing this.
You know you are doing it deliberately, people only read headlines, it's not a secret, you're making the world worse place for a few thousands clicks.

This is driving me insane like nothing else holy shit.

THEY HAD AN OPPORTUNITY, why is everyone acting like Geoff sabotaged the thing?

When you have to pay for an ad space at TGA it's bad. When Geoff offers it to you for free, it's somehow also bad.

Come oooooon this is ridiculous.
'Highguard' was planned as a shadowdrop but Geoff came in and wanted it for TGA.

Turns out the marketing for the game was bad because there just wasn't anything planned. The trailer was terrible but I guess could have made more sense with context.
But... they're still a multiplayer game with no info about team sizes on steam so I doubt it 🙃

Highguard Was Meant to be 'Shadowdrop', but Geoff Keighley Wanted it at The Game Awards
It has been revealed that Highguard's lack of marketing was because the game was originally meant to be a shadow drop.

How do we see the future? Is it an expansion of possibility and imagination, a canvas on which we can paint anything? Or is the future a contraction? A place where ideas are bound by the spaces we’re given to create them — a place that determines what we’re allowed to dream youtu.be/F0K2DnI1TDk

Some parts of this feel extremely silly, but I really like the "new perspective" one. Definitely the kind of thing modern games inspired by Fez are doing.

At least one thing that's made very clear is that this kind of person isn't "just following orders"

Alex Pretti was a colleague at the VA. We hired him to recruit for our trial. He became an ICU nurse- I lover working with him. He was a good kind person who lived to help and these fuckers executed him.

endfield is having a controversy around whether its pity system is fair or unfair and once you break down through the layers of fake language the controversy comes down to whether 300 dollars is a fair price for a party member in an rpg

idk if it's mostly mistranslations or just marketing lies, now debunked by their own dev interviews, but it's crazy to think how much damage this itw (and this overall narrative) did

Game developers don't usually say much about the genesis moments that inspire their work, probably because they'd sound a little weird. And repetitive,

We’d all be better off if we dropped the idea that anyone must write about videogames to survive.

There is no “freelance game review or death” scenario. That’s complete fiction.

“Bills to pay” and “food on the table” are real needs. Writing about videogames is not anyone’s only option.
