There's no difference between being mad at Geoff for the bad Highguard trailer and being mad at whatever dev includes a character people don't like.
It's based on pre-existing, meaningless hate and misinformed perspective.
This is just exploiting people's need for a scapegoat, it doesn't help anyone

This is literally how people were used to be told who to harass before gamergate, and it's literally how every conservative / Gamer / whatever outrage YTer is working. If you think you're better than them fucking act like it. Same if you're a reader and starts screaming at literally nothing.

They know people instantly go "GEOFF BAD" as soon as they see the name and think it's an easy win but the only thing that's achieved here is conditioning people to get mad at people they don't know, and they'll end up targeting you when they run out of other targets.

Highguard didn't pay for anything, there are both ad space and editorial placement. It's not about who can afford it, it's about the TGA team wanting something in their show vs selling ad space to a bunch of gacha games.

thanks for sprinkling some sanity in there
people really seem to think Geoff stole gameplay footage to make a trailer himself or something, it's wild
January 26, 2026 at 10:08 PM
Do you think he's some kind of master manipulator?
Even if it was paid, they're the ones that wasted the opportunity. They even say they rushed a trailer in the article you're quoting.

But no, the paid spots are for ads. When Geoff goes to a studio a asks them if they want in, it's free.

Every single person that says Geoff killed the game or that it's unethical or idk what else (this reminds me of the negative media literacy discourse around the release of The Beginner's Guide...) need to be taken off the internet and pass a reading exam to be allow back.

THEY RUSHED A TRAILER

It's not Geoff or TGA's job to micromanage how every game markets itself.
If you make a bad trailer for TGA it's not Geoff's fault.

They misjudged their play here, it happens, but it's 100% on them.
Shadowdropping a game without EA's support probably wouldn't have been a great choice either, tbf.

Multiplayer games shouldn't force you do deduce how many friends you have to gather to play online by only using vague context from their trailer.
It's insane that people will spend tens of millions on games but can't put a bunch of number on a steam page, even though that probably matters more.

Just done listening, on the topic of co-op games, have you ever played the We Were Here games?
Obviously more puzzle / escape-room, but they're pretty cool overall. It started slow, the first two are definitely skippable, but their last big one, Forever, is very good.

This is a great era for retro handhelds
