Hey all, I've been a bit quiet the last couple of weeks as I am recovering from an accident & injury.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t write my yearly AI research review this year, but here’s at least a list of bookmarked papers you might find useful: magazine.sebastianraschka.com/p/llm-resear...

Big news from Finnish publication forum. Almost all MDPI and Frontiers journals will be downgraded to level 0 and thus are not considered as properly peer reviewed trustworthy scientific journals.

In my Biology 2 lab exercises I had students go out to collect headstone data from three time periods. After 1950, honestly, there were very very few deaths recorded for anyone under age 10. It was very stark. 🧪 🌍 🌿 #iNat

Gemini 2.0 is out, and there's a ton of interesting stuff about it. From my testing it looks like Gemini 2.0 Flash may be the best currently available multi-modal model - I upgraded my LLM plugin to support that here: github.com/simonw/llm-g...

People are in general terrible at identifying AI generated stuff. A downside of this is people on committees like admissions committees who reject folks for writing like an AI when they may not have done so. www.astralcodexten.com/p/how-did-yo...

Niantic revealed it used Pokémon Go player data to train a “Large Geospatial Model” for real-world navigation, aiming to power robots and smart glasses.

These models guide users, answer questions, and enhance interactions.

It’s a reminder that our online actions have always been training AI.
