In dieser Krise scheint dies nicht der Fall zu sein. Stattdessen findet ein Rückzug ins Nationale statt, anstatt die Ursachen der Fehler zu korrigieren. Dies wird uns nicht nur Wohlstand kosten, sondern unsere liberalen Demokratien in Europa weiter aushöhlen und zerstören.

Just imagine what would happen if the EPP would in fact, as was announced yesterday, support the Commission to move on with the trade agreement, despite substantial upheaval within their ranks. What would happen in France or Poland, where the conservative bloc is already under extreme pressure?

And that fragmentation, in the long run, could prove way more obstructive to EU politics than the questionable move of parliamentarians on the left to ask the European Court of Justice to do their job of being a substantial check on the Commission's policy.

The conservative EPP and the Social Democrats (S&D), Liberals (Renew), and ECR were able to hold the majority in favour of fast Mercosur-ratification. The Greens, The Left, Far-Right factions and Independents pushed the national fragmentation of the main parties over the majority threshold.

The Mercosur EUCJ votes are in.
Here are some takeaways:
- French MEPs voted unison and across the political board for putting the Mercosur-Deal on a halt
- The same is true for Polish MEPs
- Majority of Hungarian, Greek, Irish, Bulgarian, Belgian, Slovak, Slovenian, and Romanian MEPs in favour.

The farmers protesting outside the European Parliament in Strasbourg are energised and joyful over this cooperative vote of the left and the far right. The political and economic consequences of the decision remain to be seen.
