PSA: Ombudsperson offices are the flytraps of institutions. They look like a place for help when the system misbehaves but really, they'll just trap you in endless steps and forms that lead nowhere. Then, like the fly on the glue tape, you’ll end up stuck and exhausted.

I am demoralized deeper than I have ever been in my profession. Today I learned our district intends to force AI into schools in the new year, and has literally not given one ounce of thought to energy use, water consumption, intellectual property right violation, psychological development, none.

To file under: not all heroes wear capes... Greta Thunberg is such an amazing person.

Greta Thunberg speaks to the press after being released from illegal detainment in Israel: "I could talk for a very, very long time about our mistreatment and abuses in our imprisonment. Trust me, but that is not the story.”

Canada Post is quoting the government celebrating its “tough, decisive action” in ending the service. Ever notice that only goes one way? Ending oil and gas subsidies would be a tough, decisive action. Taxing the rich would be a tough, decisive action. Has Galen Weston ever faced a decisive action?

A picture is worth a thousand words about how isolated Israel has become.

It's actually a really hard one to properly translate to French.

But it doesn't matter because to be truly Canadian it should also be so poorly translated to French as to be basically meaningless

Neurodivergent people endure an unimaginable amount of harassment from jerks & institutions. But most of it is hidden discrimination. It’s like being white in a mildly racist society: you don’t notice the racism. Bring a Black friend, and oh shit… you’ll see.

I don’t consider myself neurodivergent (others might disagree). But people I love are getting fucked up right now, and I’m sick with anger. If you see exclusion or harassment, don’t be that jerk. Speak up. Even a kind word can make a world of difference.

To the tiny-brained jerks who lose it when someone doesn’t laugh at your joke, doesn’t show empathy your way, or says something clumsy: shut the fuck up. Crawl back in the conformist hole you came from & stop hurting people. Fuckers.
faussenurse.bsky.social
It often looks like this: someone diverges a little from the norm, and some jerk feels “insulted” or wronged then blows all their fucking fuses. They exclude, bully, retaliate. You can’t imagine the level of social & institutional violence they unleash.
faussenurse.bsky.social
Many neurodivergent folks have subtle “divergent” traits. They don’t act how society expects, but it’s not obvious. And jerks really, really can’t stand “different.” They can’t fucking live with it. And those jerks are far more common than you think. For real.

The Tylenol hate is everywhere so I gotta say it loud & proud: Tylenol is a solid pain medication. Lots of people can’t take NSAIDs for lots of reasons (it may someday be you, too!). As one of them & as a palliative/pain doc, I can vouch for its efficacy! And don’t forget fever!

Some university communications about 'Supporting students in distress' (which is a highly commendable goal) list 'expressed feelings of hopelessness or despair' as a sign of concern... Not to be dramatic, but it would be faster to list people who do not tick that box...
