Society: we're declaring a war on drugs.

Also society: you should do more drugs.

Society: Drugs and alcohol are bad for you, and also we're going to give you less money, burn down the world, invigorate fascism, and remove all safety nets.

Also society: It concerns me you aren't partying very much.
YouTube video description: People are partying less. Here's why that's worrying.

Old friend just send me this. Those were the days.
An older photo of me. I'm a bear man with short mustache and beard, seated with a podcast microphone. The caption says: may contain spoilers.

I like Silent Hill f except the part where you play it.

Today's music: Samuel Barber's Capricorn Concerto. (Well, the first movement, anyway.) It premiered this day in 1944 - an underpraised concerto from a composer who wrote a number of great ones. youtu.be/KwkUfXuYsIw...

I am by no means a big Kurzgesagt fan, but I'm grateful for their newest. They have a big audience; it matters.

Josh Johnson out there being impossibly timely, impossibly funny, and impossibly polished.

I am very sorry to all the gays but The Devil Wears Prada didn't need a sequel and the very idea of one invalidates the entire theme of the film, maybe they'll be clever about it but I'm sceptical.

I'm not saying anything new, of course. But I'm as surprised as anyone else that there is apparently no one in a leadership role willing to take a breath, gather the team, and plot a change in course.

Limiting your public profile is a highly effective way to limit PR headaches. The lack of self-control here is bizarre to me; the Musk playbook is not, in fact, aspirational.

Related: my partner worked as a veterinary hospital manager for many years, for pet hospitals owned by Mars. The Mars family are, by any account, as bad as any other billionaire family, but we rarely hear of them because they rarely speak in the public sphere.

It's concerning that the BSky team seems to have a post-through-it policy when they could choose not to speak.

I do find it hilarious how they immediately backtracked after this and deleted the comment
a member of bluesky saying "Yeh" in response to the above post, with a journalist responding asking to get their exact quote over the thread in which the bluesky member responds with "what" and the journalist then rephrasing the question only for the bluesky member to delete the entire thread

Today's music: Ives' second string quartet, which premiered on this day in 1946. This is a brilliant work, challenging to play and listen to, but so rewarding. Ives was *far* ahead of his time, appreciated only late in his life, and moreso after death.

A dem resist account with a large number of followers that follows just as many back and doesn't want DMs is about a red a flag as exists on BlueSky.

I'd propose it's related to way art has been devalued to become 'content'. If it is content, it is immune to critique. This is, in my experience, a very common way to devalue both art and critics in a single stroke.

The deciding factor seems to be budget: there's a way for a film to be technically good, and as long as it meets the technical requirements, it's good by default. Expense is worth. It's consumerist at it's core.

It's the movie equivalent of the game getting a 10 because it's playable and suitably pretty.

With due respect, I'm bowing out, because whatever conversation you are having is not the same as mine.

I was a professional singer, composer, and violinist for many years. I was a games critic for more than a decade. I've been making and writing games for another. I well understand the mediums I've worked in.
