Ah yeah, this was right at the end of the 80s when Constantine was still firmly in the DCU.
filbi.bsky.social
Kinda? Constantine and Winters do know each other, they were among the gathered mystics in Alan Moore's "American Gothic" Swamp Thing story.
filbi.bsky.social
Baron Winters, yeah. Not really a magic-user himself, but has a lot of magic knowledge.

gonna start the New Whig Party to finally give a home to all the politically homeless Americans who are opposed to James K. Polk

40. Monty Python and the Holy Grail (dirs. Jones, Gilliam, 1975).

I... I know it's clichéd to cite this, I know it's been over-quoted by the most obnoxious dorks who made it their whole personality, and I know half the Pythons turned out to be cranks in old age.

I still adore it, sadly.

39. Midnight Cowboy (dir. Scheslinger, 1969).

It's gives me whiplash to look at early Jon Voight, whose career includes at least two haunting films (Cowboy and Deliverance) about sexual violence and the scars it inflicts on the psyche of the American male, and then to the weirdo he is now. Sheesh.

this is your fucking job that you're being paid to do. Imagine asking your plumber to stop your dishwasher from flooding your apartment and he's like "well what exactly do you want me to do?" The specifics are your part dog idk!

"well what are the Democrats supposed to do" I don't know! They're supposed to know! I'm not the one who sought and obtained a political position that would require me to know what to do when the ruling party attempts to install the President as a dictator!

This boss starts with 48 life (I have 29), a Mox Ruby on the field at start of play, AND an effect that lets it deal excess burn damage to me if it kills any of my creatures. It's... a bit too much.

Trying desperately to beat a boss in Forge with a super aggressive Dragon deck and so far these two are my only cards that are consistently effective. Maybe I should retool my deck around Merfolk.

the Latin Mass is a perfect example of this. 25 years ago it was for monks and nerds. now it is for misogynist white supremacist antisemites. but Leo would have come up in a Kennedy Catholic world, where in American cities, rosaries and Latin chanting could fully coexist with civil rights protests

one thing I’m pondering, and I don’t know if I can describe it very well, is what feels like a very Chicago Catholic energy around separating CHURCH conservatism from POLITICAL conservativism, which the trads and the sedevacantists across the asshole spectrum from JD Vance to Cardinal Dolan conflate

now

is he personally pro-life

almost without question

is this gonna be an area where we always disagree

for sure

but telling the US bishops they’re out of pocket for betting all their chips on Roe to the exclusion of guns and war and famine hits different when an American pope says it

Lol yeah, I know he's not dead or anything

He's just the only person I can think of who went through "cancellation" with relative grace

Anyway, that was a really good look back, Darci

Tbh the fact that he hasn't turned to an anti woke grievance grift, keeps his head down, and just streams a couple times a year is the best way this could have turned out
