A really fun one to put together, with some absolute stonkers. The new Happening Again has just dropped into inboxes. Come and read why I'm raving about Mega Drive, OGRE Sound, @sferro.bsky.social, Infinite Luxury (@occams-laser.bsky.social), and the 'Silksong' score.

It’s 30 years since the launch of Muzik and I’ll be talking about the magazine at a House Of Koko event in Camden tomorrow night (Friday), together with several other members of the Muzik team. It’s many years since I’ve seen some of them, so this should be good fun!

In the age of forums and early days MySpace and Bebo (and *very* early Facebook) I made some great friends who I still keep up with and have met multiple times. Everything post-2010 has been like shouting into a toilet.

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?

Aside from anything else, it's become clear as I've become an adult that *more* people should have done some sort of English or humanities degree or module. It feels mad now that people used to sniff at Media Studies.

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

feels like yet again time to mention that the *videogames* industry (that's a creative industry, which people do creative degrees in) brings in more than twice the amount to the British economy as the fishing and steel industries *combined*

I cannot understand what these people think the purpose of human life is?

It is *not* "pursue joy, deal justly, love well, try to understand as much and see as much of this beautiful world and of the deepness, richness and variety of human culture and experience as you can before you die"?

I never, ever thought I would be one of those "parents these days" people, but quite clearly parents these days view children as some sort of milestone that they've met and leave it at that, or just can't be bothered to put the effort in.

DON'T HAVE CHILDREN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO PARENT THEM GOOD GOD HOW HARD IS THIS TO UNDERSTAND?!

Some parents are letting their kids talk to ChatGPT in the guise of characters. Some are using it to tell bedtime stories or create coloring books.

"My son thinks ChatGPT is the coolest train loving person in the world. The bar is set so high now I am never going to be able to compete with that.”
‘My son genuinely believed it was real’: Parents are letting little kids play with AI. Are they wrong?
Some believe AI can spark their child’s imagination through personalized stories and generative images. Scientists are wary of its affect on creativity

This year is apparently the year I chose to try and read about eight books at once, so I've obviously further decided that my spooky October read shall be King and Straub's 'The Talisman'.

I mean he seriously could not have revealed it at a worse time. I was genuinely staggered at the timing. I'm against it but even I was bit "lol wow lol"

Some great reporting here: “One of the most prominent YouTubers, Anthony Styles, 59, has since deleted his AJ Audits channel after it was revealed he is a convicted paedophile. He was known to frequent protests… where demonstrators claimed to stand for the “protection of women and children”

Probably a good idea to stop using Twitter/X then.

Ed Miliband turns on Elon Musk. “He incites violence on our steeets. He calls for the overthrow of our government. He disseminates disinformation. He thinks he can tell us how to run Britain. We have a message for Elon Musk: ‘Get the hell out of our politics and our country!’”

Music journalism was once funded by labels advertising. In 2025, barely any record labels advertise, instead paying influencers to gab on. If you believe in cultural criticism and long-form writing, becoming a tQ subscriber is one vital way to ensure it survives:

Yeah I think this might be it, as I've noticed a considerable dip in quality quite recently. It's not a new thing of course but it has got worse as of late. It's a real shame as well. I don't understand why people are still on there. It's basically just 4chan these days.
