Hey Elise! It's been interesting so far - many in science use English as a lingua franca, though I'm always aware of reaching out to local audiences. How is it like in Austria?

Australia's government looks like it wants to restart talks to join the EU's €95 billion research fund.

Aussie academia has been begging/yelling at the new government to join following Trump's cuts and the government's own lacklustre government funding.

I just asked the European Commission whether they would ask for the €50,000 back in this case, as it has clearly been used to develop a military product now contracted to be supplied to the IDF, in breach of Horizon rules.

No comment on the specific case "have to look into it", spokesman says.

Israel’s defence ministry just announced a contract to buy drones from Xtend. Its SKYLORD drone system was developed with €50,000 in EU Horizon money, which is not supposed to fund military applications. The EU grant page links to the current Xtend website, advertising its “military grade” drones

New from me 🧪 Researchers have isolated a group of microbes that can recreate ‘fine-flavoured’ chocolate. Until now, it's usually been created only through natural fermentation.
